[DEEP JAPAN] Did you know "御朱印 Goshuin"? ⛩📖💮

(Tsutsuji gaoka Tenmangu)

Do you have a “御朱印 Goshuin”? Now very popular with foreigners!! Because you can get real Japanese calligraphy㊗. Japanese people have also become very popular in recent years😃.

(Takekoma shrine)

You do not have to be part of Shinto or Buddhism to receive the Goshuin. This is the characteristic tolerance of Japanese religion. Many Japanese have faith but do not belong to religious organizations:shinto_shrine::pray:.

(Sakura gaoka Daijingu)

By the way, what is the purpose of the Goshuin? This is a commemorative stamp:open_book::thinking:?? The answer is a certificate that we visited at a shrine or temple and was educated by God:princess:. The beginning was the certificate of hand-copying Buddhist sutras:paintbrush:. That has changed in the times. Another reason is that as the nation stopped spending on shrines and temples in the 12th century, they had to do business with common people:moneybag:. Even if we donate the Goshuin with just interest, it helps the shrines and temples:+1:.

(Tsubonuma Hachiman shrine)

They are keen on doing business to maintain shrines and temples🏯. The worshiper increases with the quality of the Goshuin. Therefore, flashy Goshuin that are likely to attract attention in Instagram are also being developed😮. It’s interesting that old and traditional things are so strongly influenced by social networks🔍.

Explanation of the Shrine Goshuin.

  1. “奉拝 Ho-hai” means “I respectfully worship”
  2. Name of the shrine
  3. Shrine seal
  4. Shrine emblem
  5. Japanese era and date
  6. Shrine office seal

You need a special book called “御朱印帳 Goshuin-cho book” to receive a Goshuin. Characteristic books are sold at each shrine and temple, and if it is Goshuin-cho book, we can use it in all places. This book is made of traditional Japanese paper📖.

(Aoba shrine)

The Goshuin-cho book is very fashionable. He is Sendai Shogun “Date Masamune”. It is a famous story that his helmet was modeled on Star Wars Darth Vader🎩.

(Haguro-san Toya shrine)

Surprisingly, It is “Kawasaki T-4 Blue Impulse” which is a fighter of Japan Self Defense Force:airplane::airplane::airplane:. Japan’s Shinto has the doctrine that God dwells in everything.

(Kashima Miko shrine)

This is the shrine of Ishinomaki in the affected areas that have been TV news many times in the world. A cute cat is drawn on the book. This is because the abandoned cat that lived just after the disaster was a popular worshiper:shinto_shrine::smiley_cat::heart_eyes:.

Japanese shrines and temples do not support foreign languages. You should remember the kanji “御朱印”. They are accepted at the office called “社務所 Shamusho (Office)”. Donations are almost $ 3 to $ 5. If provided in handwriting, you will wait 5 minutes. If it is already written on a piece of paper, paste it with stationery glue.

(Kashima Miko shrine)

When you visit Japan, get this realistic Japanese souvenir📖!!

@YasumiKikuchi さん,

Thanks for sharing I never heard of Goshuin before… But I do know quite a bit about Shinto, in fact I did a Misogi at the Tsubaki Grand Shrine in Mie, I still have very fond memories of studying Shintoism back in my university days so long ago…

Hello @SunnyEren
Wow, you experienced a Misogi! great😃! Not many Japanese people have ever experienced watering their entire body🤔. You have acquired the traditional experience!

Yes I know it’s extremely rare I will see if I can find a picture somewhere of it… I remember I did it in late February under the waterfall in the winter blizzard at the time and it was freezing… We were then able to go inside and the head priest son took us inside the Jinja and we were able to see the traditional Miko dancing to the Kami (I think it’s called a Kagura) and then we offered offered a branch of a tree with leaves I cannot remember what it was called to the Kami. Generally most people stay outside of the Shrine but we were allowed into the inner part except the very center where the head priest and his son were only allowed to go. The reason I was able too was I was studying anthropology and one of the professors at my university (ICU) made arrangements of some of his student to participate in the Misogi with the head priest who was his friend. Gawd that was like 21 years ago… I really should do it again… ah memories

You are lucky @SunnyEren !

Shrines and temples may be open for academic research, but in most cases they are secrets. Why? because, as you know, they do not like “Kegare (filthy)” very much. It is because God loses virginity by being seen by people’s eyes.

You could think of it that way of sort, but I like to think of it as any religion has sacred spaces… places where the gods dwell that should be respected. In Jewish beliefs there was a sacred temple where the king and head priest may enter only. In Christianity the Alter is sacred space, If anything if we treat the whole planet earth as a sacred space maybe people won’t pollute or throw garage everywhere. As for why religions do this, it help makes someone seem special I suppose it signifies your a member of this group and only the most special members of that group get into the special circle… anyways I really should find all my pictures…
