The most Interesting thing I’ve done as a Local Guide is to change reviews that do not portray the accurate information about places and identifying places that are accessible to Persons with Disabilities.
Sometime ago, I wanted to go to a lounge in Lagos and I checked Google Map for a best lounge within Surulere, I selected a particular option after checking the reviews and pictures posted, they looked so attractive and beautiful. When I arrived at the location on Itolo road off Bode Thomas, Surulere, Lagos, I was disappointed because what I saw was a clear opposite of what I read online. I made the wrong choice because of the fake pictures and reviews that I saw online.
Ever since, I decided to ensure I post accurate and correct reviews about places that I have visited, to ensure people make the write choice. I also take it upon myself to debunk reviews that are not accurate, to ensure other local guides are not misled.
Getting feedback from the businesses that I have reviewed on how my reviews have helped to grow their businesses have been quite inspiring and helping me to do more with the Local Guide program.
I also consider it as making impact when I share pictures of hotels and public places that are accessible to wheelchair users and persons with disabilities.
Being a Local Guide has helped me to appreciate nature as I carefully take pictures of places and it has also improve my photography skills which has in turn helped my career as a journalist.
