It’s another nice and interesting meet-up in Port Harcourt city of Rivers State,Nigeria. We really had a good time we had a few agendas in mind when we planned this meet-up. The first was an accessibility walk and visit to a facility for special needs.
Our accessibility walk and visit was to a school for special needs. It is called Quest learning Centre. It’s a nursery school really and it handles kids with special needs. It’s better to mention that we were not allowed to have free access for privacy reasons. We couldn’t walk around or visit or see even tbe children in the facility. We were told that even the parents of the kids love to keep their children private and secure in the school. They wouldnt like visitors or any unauthorised people have access to them Nevertheless the mistress spoke very nicely to us. She answered all our questions as well. The faculty is really limited in the kind of special care they give. It’s only kids with Autism and dyslexia that are admitted here. They don’t have the capacity and facilities for other cases outside the ones mentioned above. They are no ramps nor any other accessibility features noticed in the premises. The school is quite small, compact and kept clean and quiet. We had trouble getting there, therefore we had to edit the location of the school and it was approved immediately. That’s as far as an accessibility walk goes. @EmekaUlor please take note.
The next on the list was our item 7 on the menu. It’s a local restaurant which is well represented on Google maps. This wasn’t a fish and chips or pizza one. It’s time for a local dish. The restaurant wasn’t a super big one, very compact and simple. We both settled for a locally made dish. I got Amala, Gbegiri and ewedu while @Emeka got Eba and green vegetables soup. Whike having food,we chatted about the local guides program in general. We talked about the low motivation of local guides, contributions and past meet-ups. I was able to show him the new caption feature and how it worked. It was very knowledgeable and also interactive as well. We both enjoyed the meet-up. I was able to share some Google maps stickers with Jim. That made a huge difference and there was appreciation for that.
We parted ways as happy as Larry. This is my last meet-up for 2023. Wishing all local gudies a happy 2024 ahead and keep guiding.
Compliments of the season and happy guiding.
Cheers
