Dates with Date Palm.

Dates have been a staple food of the Middle East and the Indus Valley for thousands of years. Date is a flowering plant species in the palm family, cultivated for its edible sweet fruit.

Date tree.

Date trees typically reach about 21–23 metres in height, growing singly or forming a clump with several stems from a single root system.

Raw Date Fruit.

Date fruits are oval-cylindrical, 3 to 7 centimetres long, and about 2.5 centimetres in diameter, ranging from bright red to bright yellow in colour, depending on variety.

Dates are an important traditional crop in Iraq, Iran, Arabia, and north Africa west to Morocco. Dates are also cultivated in America in southern California, Arizona and southern Florida in the United States and in Sonora and Baja California in Mexico.

In India this is not cultivated widely. In some parts this are cultivated naturally by wind pollination.

In Odisha dates are been eaten like that or used to make cooked pickle with ripen one. Its tree is also used to extract a kind of juice which is good for health.

Very nice information about dates @SarveswarB especially the picture of the raw fruit - I had never seen it before.
I wonder why it is not cultivated in Rajasthan where there is a huge desert area.

In my country Indonesian dates very popular but only Ramadan one month of calendar Hijriyah ,dates for iftar fasting ramadhan and I think all dates come from middle East
