Famously known as heaven on earth, Kashmir is one of the most visited Destinations by all age groups. Among the multiple attractions in Jammu and Kashmir, dal lake is one of the most visited destinations by tourists. It is situated in Srinagar which is the summer capital of these union territories. Dal lake is famous for its leisure activities and is considered to be one of the largest lakes in the world.
On my last visit to Srinagar, I witnessed the beauty of Dal Lake. The wide view of mountains around the lake is truly mesmerizing and its picturesque view can be enjoyed from Shikaras.
I started my journey from Mumbai Airport to Srinagar airport and reached my stay by pre-paid transport services. After taking enough rest and a little adjustment to the high altitude, I visited Dal lake in the evening in a private vehicle with my friends.
A visit to Dal lake is incomplete without riding into one of the Shikaras (the rates for these rides are provided at the entrance, so do check them before you book it). We booked Shikara to visit the floating market and a short tour around the lake.
Shikaras are mainly used as the shuttle between houseboats and the entry point.
On our Shikara ride, we enjoyed a local hot beverage preparation called ‘Kawah’. Everywhere in Dal lake, you will see locals selling Jewelry, Tea, Ice-cream etc. But a cup of Kawah will never disappoint you here! Nothing can be more relaxing than having a hot Kawah right in the middle of a beautiful lake with a mountain view. Such a memorable experience it was! We also visited a market point for shopping in floating houseboats.
In recent times, Dal lake however has become vulnerable to Eutrophication. The increased nitrogen and phosphorus levels from untreated sewage coming from houseboats and other locations in the city are of great concern. Although Dal lake is a beautiful place to visit, the commercialization can be relooked at to conserve the aquatic flora and fauna.
The nearby attractions are,
Char chinar
Shalimar garden
The accessibility features are not available at Dal lake.

I visited J&K during my transit to ladakh in June and it was very pleasant. March to June is supposed to be the best time to visit Srinagar. But locals say that they have tourists in all seasons. @TusharSuradkar
Have you been there?

I visited in June and it was pleasant with some drizzling in between. It was just a transit when I travelled to Ladakh @Rohan10
I didn’t go to Tulip garden, the best season is March to May as Tulips bloom around April.

Another great contribution, dear friend @Smita_Patil
Very well explained with good photos (however, can I request you to publish separate photos as collages look congested?).
Thanks for information on the visiting details to Dal-Lake.
Have you a photo of Kawah?
I liked the shot of Souvenirs… beautiful.
Overall excellent post… congratulations.
Thanks for sharing…

That’s an amazing observation @TravellerG . Unfortunately most my pictures are taken from phone without landscape mode. Which makes me prefer making a collage. But I would still try to publish separate pictures in my next post.
Again, I think I was to busy enjoying Kawah that I couldn’t capture it. But your query gives me an opportunity to share one of my favourite capture on Shikara (you can see my Kawah cup at left bottom ). It is very little sweet and yellowish hot drink and feels great to sip it in cold weather there.
