There are many tourist attractions in Rajgir, Bihar. I have come across a very unique attraction which is perhaps the only one of its kind in the world. This huge wall is made of stones and it was built between 600 BC and 400 BC known as Cyclopean Wall.
This gigantic wall was started to be built by King Bimbisara of Magadha and was completed by his son Ajatashatru. It was quite wide and high. The purpose of this wall around Rajgir was to protect the city. Dressed and undressed stones were set in this wall in such a way that there was minimum space between the stones due to which the use of mortar was almost negligible.
This huge wall has disappeared from many places due to time but its remains are still safe. Now it is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India and it is a protected monument of national importance. Efforts are being made by the Archaeological Survey of India to get it the status of World Heritage.
Cyclopean Wall of Rajgir, is looking a place in World Heritage list and it’s a protected monument of national importance.
This Cyclopean wall reflects the Ancient fortifications architecture in which stone boulders dressed and undressed were used with least gaps and remaining gaps were filled with lime morter. This attraction can be visited any time. This wall was quite strong and Encircling the Rajgir to protect any invader’s or enemy attack.
