I like to share culture and food habits of our people and also lesser known places near me. India is a country of diverse culture and Kolkata, my place, is like mini India.
Kolkata is in Bengal, but along with Bengali speaking people, you will find people from all over India. People from Rajasthan, Bihar, Kerala whose culture are as diverse as desert, hill and sea, live in harmony, helping each other in business and work.
Even foreigners from countries like US, UK, Japan and Africa can been seen in Park Street and also working in many Offices.
All types of food are available in Kolkata, to cater for different food habits. Cheaper street foods are available for working class people, which help them to sustain their small salaries. Rich and famous, like movie actors (Tollywood), industrialist, businessman etc. have big hotels and restaurants to fulfill their food needs in private and comfortable environments.
Foods are available from as low INR 5 to as high as 50,000, depending on your budget.
Heritage buildings from the time of British rule can be found here. Their splendor and beautiful ornamental design give a beautiful look for our city with skyscraper in between.
Though tourist spots are famous with foreigners but there are lesser known places which come alive on occasions like Puja and Festival. Basanta Utsav, at Rabindra Bharati University on B T Road, is one such festival which happens once a year. Students in colorful dresses dance and sing, throwing colors (abir) to each others.
I feel, I still have to visit and see all the places in Kolkata, which has many places hidden from me, though I am born in Kolkata.
Regards,
Anand
