Cultural Heritage Preservation of Oslob, Cebu, Philippines

Oslob is a coastal town Southeast of Cebu, Philippines. I never imagined how this place preserved their cultural heritage. It is one of the best place to go to if you want to reminisce and be back in time. You can book a flight from Manila Airport to Mactan-Cebu International Airport for about one hour, and ride a bus from South Bus Terminal to Oslob by anout 3-4 hours.

These are just some of the historical places you may consider. Other than the usual whaleshark encounter:

Calle Ruins is unfinished building made of coral blocks resembling a Spanish-era barracks. This was intended to be the barracks for Spanish soldiers. It was started about 1860, but remained unfinished.

Oslob became an independent parish in 1848 with the Immaculate Conception as its patroness. The present-day church of cut coral stone was started in 1830 and finished 18 years later.

Let’s reminisce the past and back in time. Oslob has a museum to lead you to that. Amazing preservation of cultural heritage. Enjoy Cebu’s rich history! Love Philippines! #itsmorefuninthephilippines

Hello @philip102 ,

Thanks for sharing!

This place looks very interesting and I can clearly see the Spanish roots in the architecture. It’s a shame it wasn’t finished.

It doesn’t seem like a place that attracts a ton of tourists, or maybe you were just visiting out of the high season.

Is this place popular for tourists, or would you say it’s a hidden gem?

Dear @MortenSI .

I believe it is a hidden gem. No much tourists were going to the area yet. One of the cultural heritage of the Philippines with much of potential to be one of the tourist draws in the area, other than the whale sharks, where the place is well-known for.

It sounds like just the place for me @philip102 !

It’s hard to find places like this one without it being overrun by hundreds of other tourists. It seems to be a good idea to see it soon, if you want to experience it before it becomes a tourist hot spot.
