Since moving to Nagoya, I have become more familiar with crafts items.
For example, this creators’ store, “LOOP,” is located alongside casual stores in Sakae, the heart of Nagoya.
The other day, I entered the shop, and was unexpectedly struck by the passionate works of the creators, and ended up buying several items.

For example, these socks are made of Japanese paper and are very light.
Although it is paper, it can be washed normally, it is comfortable even in humid summer, and I like the design and color of the leaves. They are cute. -
These are summer socks dyed with indigo in Chita Peninsula(知多半島).
They are comfortable and do not make my feet steamy.
What surprised me was that not only does the creators do everything from farming in Chita Peninsula, but also using Tokoname ware jars, Chita cotton, Chita sake, ashes, and other items from the Chita Peninsula in this process.
This skirt was created by Yamakatsu Dyeing Co., Ltd. which dyes “montsuki(紋付),” kimonos and haori with family crests, using more than 100 years of dyeing techniques.
I bought it because I was attracted not only by its story but also by its unique pattern.
The waist is elastic & string so I can eat a lot.
I felt that the products in Loop are things that enrich people’s lives by sublimating local traditions and creator’s techniques into something that looks good and is highly functional.
Exhibitors are selected once a year from an open call for entries, and they are allowed to sell their products rent-free for about 11 months and receive publicity and other support.
I was happy to discover one of Nagoya’s good points in that these products are sold in accessible places in an easy-to-access manner.
名古屋に越してから、工芸品を身近に感じるようになりました。
例えば、こちらのクリエイターズショップ「LOOP」は、名古屋の中心地である栄のカジュアルなお店の並びに構えられています。
先日、こちらに全く気が付かずにフラっと入ってみたところ、思いもよらずクリエイターの皆さんの熱い作品に胸を打たれ、いくつか買ってしまいました。

靴下のhacu
例えば、こちらの靴下。
写真で見ると黒がかってますが、和紙が入っており非常に軽いです。
和紙だけど普通に洗濯できるし、湿気の多い夏でも快適で、葉のデザインと色がかわいくて気に入っています。 -
紺屋のナミホ
こちらは知多藍染めの夏用靴下です。
曖昧な染め具合もとってもかわいく、サンダル時に履くと手放せないぐらい快適です。
驚いたのが、こちらのお店は工房のある知多半島で畑から染料づくり、染めまで一貫して行っているだけでなく、この一連の作業に、常滑焼の甕や知多木綿、知多のお酒、灰など、知多半島のものを利用しているという強いこだわりがあったことです。 -
中村商店
中村商店のスカートは、家紋の付いた着物や羽織の「紋付」を染める山勝染工株式会社が、100年以上の染技術を用い、生まれたスカートだそうです。
その物語だけでなく、独特な絵柄に惹かれて購入しました。
ウエストがゴム＆紐なので沢山食べても大丈夫です。
「Loop」に出品されている商品は、土地の伝統やお店の技術を恰好いい見た目や高い機能性に昇華させた、生活をより豊かにするモノだと感じました。
出品者は公募で1年に1度選ばれ、約11ヶ月間、賃料無料で商品を販売することができる上、広報などの支援を受けることができるそうです。
こうしたものが、手に入りやすい場所に手に取りやすく販売されていることに、名古屋の良さを１つ発見できた気がして嬉しくなりました。
