As a Muslim, eating in a correct manner and order is essential for my family and me. Therefore, when we were living in Perth, Australia - which is not a Muslim area, we had to be more cautious about the halal-things. When we planned to go to a restaurant, we would usually consult our halal-apps - and Google Maps. But, sometimes, there was no information about the Halalness available. We would then go to the Restaurant to check the info by ourselves.
We often went for lunch or dinner with friends, try new restaurants in town - and check whether they are halal-friendly. Then it almost became a habit, at least for my hubby and me. To help others, we decided to review the places in Google Maps. Let us see the halal food trails we created when we were living in Perth.
1. Bua Siam Restaurant in Langford, Western Australia
I think this is the very first restaurant we reviewed. We were craving for Thailand cuisine (a halal one), then we found it when we searched for it. We went there and made sure to check the halal sign of the restaurant. We were happy because it is safe to say that the food was nice -and also halal. Ah, and also, the Mango Sticky Rice, so authentic just so you think was eating it in a Hawker Street around Bangkok. To date, it has helped the community for around 16.324 times.
2. Charcoal Chicken in Dianella, Western Australia
We went here when we wanted charcoal chicken and lamb chops so bad. The side dishes (Biryani, potato cream, kinds of pasta, many types of salads) are to die for. The foods were really comforting. It helped me to survive my postgrad study. And we did not need to worry because they are all halal.
3. Penang Village Malaysian Delights in East Victoria Park, Western Australia
We surely checked for the halal - and also the favorite menu when we when there for the first time. Softshell crab on salty egg sauce was our favorite since then! We went there for several occasions; New Year, Birthday, or simply casual dinners for comforting our soul after long hour lab works/study. Look at our happy faces!
4. Sedap Place in East Victoria Park, Western Australia
The place was always crowded. We needed to make a reservation and made it after our second attempt. Char Kwetiau and Teh Tarik “Pulled Tea” were nice! The Laksa is also good. Making sure to check the halal-sign (for the later review) always came naturally while spending time together with friends.
5. Warung Racik in Willagee, Western Australia
The next trail is Indonesian food. Warung Racik is one of the Indonesian Halal Restaurants in Perth. Although Indonesia is a Muslim dominant country, not all of the Indonesian cuisine is Halal. That is why it is also important to always check and recheck the Halal status of the Restaurant. “Ikan terbang” or “Flying fish” here was good! I had a chance to celebrate a Chinese New Year with my labs mates.
6. Jus Burgers in Subiaco Western Australia
Do not worry if you plan to have burgers. Jus Burgers in Subiaco uses a Halal procedure in preparing their meats. We went there several times to hang out with friends. Even they have tempeh - fermented soybean (Indonesian specialty) for the vegetarian options.
I documented the Halal Food Trails in my Google Maps contributions for else to decide where they should go for dinner in a nice and Halal Restaurant. Altogether, these posts have been viewed by more than 100.000 times. We hope that our interesting activities of creating Halal Food Trails in Perth was not only fun for ourselves, but also impacted the community requiring such information.
Thank you Google Local Guides, being one of it is fun yet rewarding. Can not wait to gather with other Local Guides around the world to share thoughts, skill, and experience to improve our future contributions.
