Correcting misleading information and why?

Hello,

While Google Maps as a service provides very helpful details about locations on the map, there are times when irrelevant, incorrect or outdated data is present at many locations. Imagine a medical emergency at a hospital and the doctors prescribe some medicines which are not available within the hospital. One would search for the nearest pharmacy on Google Maps and rush to that location. Suppose the pharmacy that used to exist there earlier has shut down or moved to a new location, and the information is not updated on Google Maps. One would have lost precious time in the process.

Similarly, imagine rushing to the location of an ATM that appears nearby on Google Maps only to find out that the bank ATM does not exist there.

In both situations, had the correct information been updated on Google Maps, or the incorrect information removed, the person would not have lost time and energy pursuing misleading information. This may be the result of incorrect mapping or outdated information still present on the Google Maps. It is thus quite necessary that such incorrect or outdated data is promptly corrected. Thankfully, correcting the data is easy as Google Maps allows reporting incorrect data so that it can be addressed. However, sometimes reviewers reject genuine corrections perhaps assuming them to be spam. Posting a photograph of the location from where an ATM has moved, for example, may help in such cases.

It would be great to know other means to correct irrelevant, incorrect or outdated data on Google Maps.

Conversely, if a nearby ATM or pharmacy is not mapped, those solely dependent on Google Maps for help may fail to notice the locations. Therefore, mapping new or unmapped locations is equally important!

Cheers!
