Hi everyone!
I’m pretty sure that there are wonderful places all over the world but, what kind of Local Guide would I be if I don’t write about my own hometown?
Cordoba is one of the most beautiful cities in Spain, home to the famous Mosque. The city is located in the north of Andalusia and, with a population over 300.000 people, it’s the third biggest city in this region.
The weather in summer is extremely hot so I wouldn’t recommend you to visit Córdoba in July or August.
If you only have a day or two to visit the city, I would recommend you to go to the Mosque and have a walk around this breathtaking monument. Only if you have more time, I would also go to the Medina Azahara. I love this place but it’s far from the city center so it will take a lot of time to get there. =(
I’m totally amazed by the beauty of the Castle of the Christian Monarchs, really close to the Mosque. The months from May to October are the best to go there because, apart from the day view, you can also have a night tour around the gardens and be delighted with a lights and water spectacle. After that, I would walk beside the river passing through the Roman Bridge, the Triumph Arch and going up the Calahorra Towel, where you will have a great view of the city. There is a famous terrace on the top of a building called “Sojo” where you can have a drink with similar views. It’s very nice to stay there for a quick break when the weather is good. Talking about seasons and the weather in Córdoba, my favorite month is May, when every street of the city is amazingly colored by the blooming of a huge variety of flowers
Apart from the flowers , May is the month where the main festivities of the city take place. People will be able to see the courtyards festival, a beautiful contest between the different courtyards of the city, all decorated with flowers. Visitors also have the opportunity to visit the wonderful “Cruces” and the “Cata” where you can taste the local wine Montilla-Moriles and the well known salmorejo. At the end of May, it takes place the Córdoba Fair. It’s a ten-days-festivitie where you can see gypsies and flamenco artists singing and dancing, horsemen and women, ride on the differents attractions of the amusement park and also try to learn how to dance
sevillanas.
I’m in love with Córdoba any time of the year but even more in the month of the flowers.
