Emperor Akbar’s architecture in Fatehpur Sikri masterfully addressed the hot, subtropical climate by blending local and Persian techniques for natural climate control. His palaces incorporated innovative cooling elements like running water channels, pavilions, and stone screens (jaalis) to create comfortable microclimates for the royal court.

A remarkable example of this engineering is evident in a corridor near the Anarkali Tunnel complex. Here, Mughal engineers embedded stone air ducts directly into the wall. These ducts, coupled with opposing pierced stone screens, efficiently cool the air, demonstrating advanced passive airflow principles.

This ingenious system creates an extremely cool breeze, even during the hottest summers, serving as a surprising and powerful attraction for tourists. It stands as a magnificent, functional testament to sustainable construction engineering, reflecting the eco-friendly luxury enjoyed by the Emperor and his consorts.
