Converting the less trodden into a well-trodden path: That is what the local guide program means to me.
I am an avid traveler and I like doing solo and group treks where we just pick a hill top/old fort for our trips. While the spots are well marked on Google maps the last mile connectivity is what is lacking Recently we went for trek to a place called Madhugiri Fort about 2.5 hrs drive from Bangalore but could not find the exact entrance location to the fort in spite of searching on a number of blogs and google maps. We had to spend close 45 minutes before we could locate the exact spot from where the trail started.
I made it a point to add the correct spot on Google maps so that fellow travelers like me do not face the same challenge in future with a description, the parking spot for the vehicle etc. The entry is still under review in maps. I hope fellow trekkers will find it useful and in the long term it makes travelling to these less trodden paths less friction less and much better experience.
It is also a way to thank the community of the amazing local guides and fellow travelers whose contributions have been it easy to enjoy so many wonderful places around the world, enjoy local cuisines and discover the hidden gems.
