I am Nasim M Joy, a solo traveler and currently working as a Team Leader at a renowned advertising and marketing agency in Bangladesh. My primary responsibility is to oversee advertising and marketing projects across various locations in the country with my team.
Google Maps in My Daily Life
Since our work requires visiting new areas frequently, Google Maps has become an indispensable tool for us. By using it, we can estimate distances and calculate approximate transportation costs.
As we work in different locations every day, Google Maps helps us navigate to our destinations and get a clear idea of the road and surroundings through Street View.
Moreover, Google Maps plays a vital role in planning our work routes. By observing the satellite view, we can identify densely populated areas and focus our advertising efforts accordingly. Thus, Google Maps is an essential part of my professional life.
As a solo traveler, Google Maps also allows me to plan my trips with ease. I rely on reviews to get a better understanding of places before visiting.
How I Became a Local Guide
When I initially started as a Local Guide, I contributed irregularly, occasionally adding local schools, colleges, or shops to the map. However, after joining my job, I frequently traveled to new places by car, relying heavily on Google Maps.
Unfortunately, I often encountered inaccuracies, such as incorrect locations or misleading information. These issues caused significant inconveniences. Thatâs when I decided to start correcting these errors to help others avoid similar problems. Since then, Iâve been consistently contributing to Google Maps, and it has become a regular practice for me.

Achievements Through Local Guiding
The greatest reward Iâve received from contributing to Google Maps is the love and appreciation from people. It gives me immense satisfaction to make even a small positive impact on someoneâs life.
Additionally, Google has recognized my contributions by sending me gifts, such as the âGoogle Cloud Capâ last year and a Google-branded water bottle this year.
Iâve also received various gifts from Bangladesh Local Guides, including pins, bags, crests, and more. Furthermore, Iâve made many Local Guide friends from different parts of the country, who have been helpful both online and in real life.
