I first added my own businesses on the Google Maps because it feels great to see your own business online where people can look for you and find you. I started contributing to Google maps many years ago, I started because whenever I had to find a shop or a restaurant, I couldn’t find enough information specially in the small towns; so then I thought I should start adding places to Google maps to help others.
The most interesting thing what I think I have done as a local guide is to add small places like shops, restaurants, hotels, tea shops especially of the people who don’t even know what Google Maps is. Going around places when traveling with my phone, taking pictures of the shops and posting them on Google maps became my hobby. Once I was in NYC and I kept on taking pictures of the places around and he asked me why do you do that and my reply was “so that people like you can find right under their nose what they are looking for”. He was impressed and not just appreciated me but also started contributing. I love this job, I love this voluntary job. It brings smile to my face when I see that my photos got around 10M views which simply means I helped over 10M people.
