Being a local guide is not a small thing. When you go somewhere, you must avail some experiences, some understanding of the place and its details. Many of us keep this only in our mind and share it with people who close to us. But it will be a great thing if you share that with the entire world. It can make other people’s life easier, you will also be beneficial in the same way.
Getting information about one place is not a big deal now. But the accuracy and authenticity of the information is a problem. In such kind of a situation, we can simply rely on Google Map, because it has a great community to add and refine map listings, write authentic reviews.
When we add something to the map or suggesting an edit, we might not be aware of its future impacts. That data can helpful for thousands of people. When heavy floods affected Kerala, the southern state of India, rescuers used Google map’s to reach the survivors.
There was something quite interesting, the flood was quite unexpected and all of a sudden. Since the state never had any such floods in recent history, such emergency facilities were quite lacking. Before the authorities can mobilize extended support, the local fishermen rushed to the flood-affected areas with hundreds of fishing boats and started the rescue operation.
These men were coming from miles away, for the first time and they were completely unaware of the places, roads, buildings, etc.
Also, the survivors wanted to inform their location and the relatives wanted to point out were their people had standard. All these came to one point “Google Map”. It was used effectively throughout the rescue operation.
In short, our contributions to Google Map is having a great significance. We cannot predict how, when and to whom it will be useful. Those local guides who added or edited places could indirectly contribute their effort to the rescue operation.

In our localities, especially the place I belong to, some information is lacking. Many roads, streets, local businesses, etc are missing or they are not added clearly. We need the drive to add all those missing things and correcting the improper data.
Google map reviews have a great impact now. These days people first check the map reviews before a local business or a place. Google map reviews have great authenticity among the people. Being a local guide I try to add authentic and neutral reviews to the places I visit. I am well aware of the seriousness of the task I am doing so I will be fair and honest when I write the review. It is a great pleasure when others say my reviews helped them.
Overall Google map has become an essential part of our daily life. It has become like a common man’s search engine. An ordinary individual from my local community uses Google map more than Google’s any other service including the Search.
I feel we have build up a habit of contributing to Google Map like planting trees or cleaning the environment, both are good for the future.
