Content not posted as original places removed on mass after previously being approved

Hi everyone. Wondered if anyone had had a similar issue to this, and if so what was the solution? Thank you

For context I’m a level 8 contributor (only 1,700 points off level 9), and have added over 350 places new to Google Maps before without this issue.

Whenever I travel I look for gaps on Google Maps to fill. I was in Greece last month and found lots of places missing from Google Maps, primarily churches, so sites clearly visible on satellite view.

I suggested them as missing places, and almost all of them were approved. I then added photos and reviews to them to help others.

Over the past month I’ve had a bunch of automated emails from Google Maps saying that my content hasn’t been posted. Here are a couple of examples…

https://www.google.com/maps/reviews/data=!4m5!14m4!1m3!1m2!1s107429532799819190524!2s0x0:0xa5ca8d82075429f2

I believe what has happened is that another automated review process has taken place since I added the missing places and content, and has removed the original place, leaving stranded reviews. I added dozens while travelling so it may have thought that I was a bot, despite having a clear track record.

It is obviously somewhat frustrating to be putting time and effort into Google Maps to improve it, and getting this outcome.

I found a link a few weeks ago, which I can’t find again, to ask Google Maps to review my recent content which I haven’t had any response to. Any ideas what I can do to get these places and content reinstated? Many thanks

Hi @Jonty

I think your analysis is likely correct.

Here is the form you can try

I would be careful about adding new places in a country using a different alfabet and language, as checking if a place already exists on Maps can be very tricky.

Just zooming in on Maps will not show all places in the database. You need to do a text search to be sure. Obviously we can’t do a text search in Greek when we don’t know the language and don’t have the needed keyboard installed. Making a category search might work, but there are many different church categories. But it is likely our best bet.

Then, adding a Greek church without being able to add the correct name in the local language makes your new place more subseptable to being removed as a duplicate sooner or later.

The different categories on Maps are “grouped” so searching for one type of church might show churches across categories. Especially when yuuvare zoomer in by a lot.

I recently checked my contributions on https://www.localguides-ranking.com/ and noticed a distinct drop in points in April this year.

This could be one of the purges you mentioned. But it looks like the points came back…

You need to registre in the website to ensure it will collect your data daily.

Thank you @MortenCopenhagen, appreciate your help and support.

I completed the form on 5 May so 14 working days ago, and hopefully I’ll get a response soon. Not sure whether all the reviews and photos will be savable if the original places have been removed on mass.

Good advice on the language situation.

https://www.localguides-ranking.com/ looks interesting and I wasn’t aware of it. I’ve just added my profile to see the stats.

It can take 6 weeks before they get to your form submision so please be patient. And you will not get notified. So I propose you check your contributions once a week or so.

Will do. Thank you!
