#ConnectPostChallenge: Share your best post of 2021

Dear #Localguides

The year 2021 is going to be over very soon. A new year is coming with new hope, new expectation. Due to the pandemic, we spent a gloomy time in 2021 worldwide. The virus impacted our lives very badly. We have seen the effect of the virus in our posts in Connect also. The pandemic failed to stop the Localguides writing in our beloved forum Connect. Throughout this year, we have read hundreds of beautiful posts with amazing photos and descriptions. We have read those posts attentively, made comments, and given likes. As 2021 is going to be over, so as a short recall, we want to see what we have posted in Connect. And to do that, I am arranging this #ConnectPostCahllenge.

What is #ConnectPostChallenge and how to participate:

Through this challenge, we can re-read some of the amazing posts from our very talented Localguides. Through this challenge, we can judge how we were active in Connect, how much love and response we got from the other Localguides here. Normally we do not visit our connect profile but this challenge will help us look back. I am sure you will have a positive feeling while you will surf your connect profile for your post. It is the resubmission of your best post in Connect. This Challenge will continue up to 31st December of 2021.

It is a very simple and easy challenge indeed. Please follow the below steps to participate in this challenge:

  1. Go to your connect profile
  2. Select your post/s that seems best to you
  3. Copy the link of that post and share the link here as a comment

How to get a winner:

  1. After getting your link in the comment we will count the number of Comments and Likes/Kudos
  2. Each Like/Kudos will carry one point, each comment will carry 4 points.
  3. The total points of Comments & Likes/Kudos will be your total points.
  4. The most total points holder will be the winner.
  5. For example, if the submitted posts have 20 comments and 35 likes/Kudos, your total point will be: (20X4) +35 = 105.
  6. If your post gets a positive comment from any Google Moderator, it will carry 4 bonus points.
  7. If your post gets a comment from any Connect Moderator, it will carry 3 bonus points.

Some General Rules:

  1. You can participate with the post you published in Connect in 2021 (From Jan. 1 to Dec. 31).
  2. Each Category of Connect e.g., Photography, Travel, Food & Drink, Local Stories, Meet-Ups, Achievements, and RoadMapper will have an individual winner.
  3. There will be 2 combined winners among from all the submitted categories with the highest number of received Comments and highest number received likes/kudos
  4. You can share the link of your post for a single category or several links for several categories.
  5. if you edit your submission or comment, please let us know, so that we can update our record accordingly.

Happy Guiding, Happy Writing!

Updated comment:

Dear Mukul @MukulR

You have edited your initial comment to appear as if my brother @SholaIB and I came to your post uninvited. I don’t think that’s nice. I promised to go through the post and comments one more time to see what has changed before making a final comment only to find this out.

My Paul @PaulPavlinovich advised I always keep a screenshot while conversing with people who may later change their comment, that; I have never done till date and now, if I checked my mail and did not find this post notification, I would have been very sad.

This is not to say I do not change my comments too, but taking someone’s name out who came to comment on my post and lend helpful ideas, that; I think is somehow because it makes us appear like meddlers

I am not trying to dictate to you how you should run your challenge, I came to comment only because you invited me ‘through your tag’.

This did not sit well with me, Mukul, as I see you carefully expunged Shola and I from your initial comment

Thank you.

Original comment:

Mukul, while I think this is a laudable initiative, people comment so much on my posts I think it will be an unfair comparison or competition.

I enjoy reading from many people here even though they rarely post and I think they are amazing writers. I have seen a post with zero kudo which I considered best that week. Kudos doesn’t always mean the post is all that, many who give kudos don’t even read the posts.

Kudos and comments will be an unfair way to judge the quality of a post. Can we maybe have another set of criteria?

A voting system maybe?

Let’s see who commented on the posts?

  1. Google Moderators
  2. Connect Moderators
  3. Top level Local Guides

Who gave the Kudos?

Or we just go directly and have a voting system to select a winner.

My most favorite post this year is the Recap of the Rule 5 Meetup!

I love it so much because it took a lot of brain work, a lot of people coming together and because it was inspired by the story of a Local Guide whose posts I admire who got kicked out, I tried to get help for him, but never got a result.

Rule 5 was a way of spreading a shield over my friends and all who read to learn the rules of the Program and stay safe.

I can’t take credits for it because it’s a joint work.

Thanks a lot for your nice comments with important points @Ewaade_3A . Usually, you will see that Google Moderators do not make any general comments in our post unless we break the rule :grinning: here. But, they choose some posts as Friday Favorites. There are many Localguides here whose posts were never listed in Friday Favorites and they are the major in number.

On the other hand, it will be really time taking and troublesome also if you want to choose a post that has a comment or like from Google Modertorsor or Connect Moderators or a Top Level Local Guides. In this case, LGs will leave searching after checking three or five posts. What do you think?

Yes, considering a post only by a number of comments and kudos is a little unfair. But as I mentioned in my post, pls submit a link to your post that seems best to you. I think we should submit a link to the post that I love most, not by considering some numbers. I hope you will agree with me.

If you want, you can share the link to Rule 5 as you wrote this and if you really love this post most.

so many thanks to come up with some beautiful points and information. I love them so much.

Mukul! You and t****** are 5&6

Lol.

Google Moderators don’t comment on posts? Wow! That’s new to me.

They actually do.

My point is that;

Judging a post by kudos doesn’t mean so much, many people who give a kudo don’t even read a post, I referenced ‘that category of people’ because these ones give kudos consciously.

I have woken up someday to a 100 kudos from a random somebody, some give kudos for badges.

That is why I am saying; after the final selection, you can make us vote for the winner over adding kudos and comments points.

But at the end of the day, it is your post and your challenge and you must have carefully thought it through before sharing with us. So, let it be done as you will.

No, thank you, given the existing criteria, I can’t participate in the challenge, I hope you understand, the scales will never balance.

@MukulR

Let me tell you two people who can win flat out from this criteria @MAHBUB_HYDER and his wife, I have forgotten her Connect ID but to date she is the Local Guide with the most kudos on any post.

Hello @MukulR

Thank you for tagging me on this post. Your participation on conenct of recent has been quite commendable. You are very active indeed. I appreciate your inspiration and contributions that I can’t resist to reply your comment or even comment on your post.

I’ll surely participate in this challenge, but I also agree with @Ewaade_3A likes especially is not an efficient way of judging a good post. I think very often local guides with lots of followers or have spent x amount of years on connect gets lots of like comments

I for instance haven’t so many post with likes,my motivation is that I like to share and write,so either it’s liked or not,I put my best in writing and getting a good click. The like comments comes secondary to me. I know one very prominent local guide who has said that it’s not inspiring to write post and because you don’t have many followers your post just lies there :hugs: . For that reason they have written less post on connect.

There has been the an idea on the idea exchange board to create room for “Views” as in how many people viewed your post either they liked it or not. That would be quite interesting really. We’ll I’ll look through my profile and send in my contribution. I have looked through the comments and I like Ewaade’s arguments about this.

Cheers

Dear @SholaIB & @Ewaade_3A Thanks a lot for your comments about judging a post. If you read the winning process you will see that 1 comment carries 2 points whereas 1 like carries 1 point. To make a comment we must open the post. I think, if we increase the point to 3 or 4 then it will be at least meaningful criteria to select a post as a winner. What do you think friends? And I love to implement the suggestion of submission to bring it to the second round and get votes to select a final winner. Let me know your comments on this. Regards

I noticed that about the comment which is quite good. Well-done I agree to that . Although I may not win, 4 points is okay @MukulR .

The other rule about the moderators like comment or any comment on the post at all seeems viable too. Their judgement should be credible as moderators.

Cheers

Ok, I am increasing comment’s point to 4 instead of 2 @SholaIB . Regarding the value of moderators’ comments, I am thinking about what to do. Google Moderators Comments will carry 4 points and Connect Moderators Comment (each comment) will carry 3 points. What do you think?

@MukulR

I’ll also agree with that because in general we believe they should be very neutral in their comments. That’s going to be abit tedious on your part to search the post for like comments from moderators but I’ll be happy to support you in a little measure as I have very busy schedule this period

Wonder what @Ewaade_3A thinks about this ?
