OK Y’all, I had a blast with the application process for #connectlive2019! And nooooo, please, this is NOT my submission post, lol! But all that reflecting on which prompt to pick, and then reflecting on my prompt, really helped me grow as a Local Guide! As I commented earlier, just thinking about the prompts made me love the #LetsGuide philosophy even more! Helping people is what I want TO DEFINE MY LIFE Y’ALL! I did have some crazy out takes though! Did anyone else find speaking for ONLY ONE minute as hard as I did? I mean I love making videos! It’s kind of my thing! But so is talking!
@lynneannec Of course others are also also having the issue. The one minute video is the thing for which I haven’t yet applied.
Hi @lynneannec
It seems funny but yes, I agree in some way. In my last two applications a was really screwing my mind, trying to stay under 60 seconds.
Working on the script, re-writing everything 10 different times, recording, listening, recording again, trying to compress my story, cutting pieces, filming everything again, speaking faster, but …
But really, we have to submit more than just a video: our submission will include a post, a video and a list, so we don’t really need to tell everything in the video, to compress our whole story in 60".
I am writing here more for reassuring myself (I will start to record my video this weekend), but I already know that, at the end, I will try again to assemble a whole film 60 seconds long.
Good luck, we all will remember the “video making” time as the most crazy moment of the application.
I am crossing my fingers for you
Well, I made some video’s before for other purposes, and your experience sounds VERY familiar. So, I guess that’s simply how it works.
@SaifIS It’s good to know I’m not alone. My usual style for video making is very conversational. I just say whatever I’m thinking. So, having to time myself was very different!
@ErmesT I told myself, just speak from the heart. So I tried not to rehearse too much, but that 60 second limit caused my husband to yell “cut” like a director, more times than I imagined, lol!
@arjantupan My eyes have been awaked to the difficulties of timed videos! I mean I knew I loved to talk! And editing those bloopers out, I started to dislike the sound of my own voice, lol!
@lynneannec Conversational video is better as it looks natural. But I have another peoblem along with this one. My problem is I am not very fluent when speaking in English.
@SaifIS I can see that would make it even more difficult, because you are trying to speak slower to enunciate! I am rooting for you! I hope we both get an invitation to #connectlive2019 !
@lynneannec Exactly. Yes, let’s hope we both get selected.
Hahaha. Sounds familiar. I made a short podcast series, in which I recorded a long interview, and then edited that down to 20-30 minutes. Boy did I hate to hear myself talking. Sometimes even shouting “shut up!” to the sound of my voice.
Haha @lynneannec
in my case the “director” for my 2017 video was my wife. As English is not my first language, when I try to speak faster the result is something impossible to understand, that’s why I needed to prepare a script, and then to cut big pieces of my text. In any case, the video was a bit longer than 60 seconds, but I wanted to keep the ducks (7 useless, but funny seconds).
This year I will try a 60 seconds sharp
@ErmesT I am also having trouble with my script. Your video looks good as you are talking about a location. The audio could have better though. Curious, were you invited in 2017?
Well, @SaifIS , my story about 2017 is a bit funny, because I wasn’t invited at first. I received an email starting with, thank you for applying, we are sorry to …
After one week, I received another email, informing me that a guest had given up. In this way I discovered that I was the number 151 (the first of the excluded), and I had the great opportunity to visit Google in San Francisco
@ErmesT Lucky you! I wish I had received such emails after the first one, ha ha.
@ErmesT Your video is so professional! I loved the ducks! I read your response where you were turned down at first but then got to go! How exciting! I hope that doesn’t happen to any of us this year! I just love how this application process is bringing people together to share our stories! I so hope I get to go and meet dome of my “pen pals” in person!
@arjantupan Hahaha, I guess now I understand how my husband of 42 years feels about the sound of my voice sometimes, lol
