Connecting through Connect (Recap)

I’ve been a Local Guide since 2016, but I don’t know why, I only accessed Local Guides Connect for the very first time last year, after having received an invite to apply to Connect Live 2019. Eventually, I got selected and started to use Local Guides Connect to connect with other CL attendees and also to get together with the Brazilian Local Guides Community. Since then, I became very active, and now, I access it almost every day. I like to welcome newcomers, help other fellow local guides, by answering questions about Maps and Connect, in addition to starting new topics, learning more about the program, and interacting with the community.

That’s why I accepted the Kashifmisidia calling and hosted a meet-up last month to celebrate the 4th anniversary of Connect. I loved to meet online new friends and meet others again. I limited the number of attendees in 20 to allow everyone to share their experience, and 13 LG have shown up (thank you, everyone). We talked for about 2 hours, and we had a great time. Due to the limit of tags, I will not be tagging the attendees.

Abra, Saudi Arabia

Abra is a friend that I met in 2019, in San Jose, during CL2019. I remember that we had a great conversation about a lot of subjects, like the fires on Amazon Forest. I appreciated her interests and knowledge about Brazil. In our meet-up, she told us that she doesn’t use to write a lot of articles, but likes to access Connect to read about the places that she’ll visit. The “Favorite locations” is a feature that could help her.

Carlos Ramirez, Colombia

Carlos Ramirez learned about Connect by chance and has been writing some interesting articles, like this one about the Carnival of Barranquilla.

Cecilia, Argentina

Ceci has been very active on Local Guides Connect, and with other Argentinian Local Guides, she has been building a strong Local Guides Community. According to her, it’s not about increasing the number of Local Guides but getting them together.

Celeste, USA

Celeste doesn’t use it often, but she’d like to connect with other Local Guides in her region. As other Local Guides, she learned about Local Guides Connect because of Connect Live 2019.

Ewade, Nigeria

Ewade joined Local Guides in march, and she’s taking it very seriously. Today, she is very active on Connect. She is not a big fan of Social Media, because she doesn’t feel very safe posting there. On the other hand, here on Connect, she can communicate her thoughts safely.

Isha, UK

Isha started her journey on Connect after being invited to apply to Connect Live 2020. Since them, she has been exploring Connect to meet new people and learn about different cultures.

Jess, Canada

Jess doesn’t access Connect a lot, and as a UX expert, she wished that the platform was more friendly and easy to use.

Jesi, Argentina

Jessica discovered Connect in 2017 but didn’t use to write much in the beginning. In 2018, she wrote a post about her trip to Iguazu Falls. Since then, she has started writing more about her travels. Connect helped her learn more about accessibility. She is also interested in topics such as photography. As a Connect Moderator, she likes to help people understand more about Local Guides Connect and make sure it’s a friendly place.

Kashif, Pakistan

Kashif has been a Local Guide since 2015. In 2017, he wrote his first post on Connect. Today he is very active on Connect and likes to share his knowledge, primarily through accessibility meet-ups.

Eugenia - Argentina

She discovered Connect in the middle of 2017, after attending a meet-up. But she just started to do it more often after 2019. As a Local Guide, she likes contributing by uploading photos, adding and reviewing places, in addition to creating lists.

Osama, Jordan

Osama got a notification about Connect in November of 2017, but it was more recently that he started to contribute more often. A military retired, he told that his first post was about traditional cuisine, and he received a lot of questions from moderators. Step by step, he started to learn more about the community. Today, he writes a lot of great posts.

German, Argentina

German is from Buenos Aires and started writing a few weeks ago. He enjoys learning about new cultures.

Sarah, Brazil.

Sarah is a Local Guide from Brazil, who first knew about Local Guides Connect in 2017, when she applied (and got selected) to the Summit 2017. Since then, she has become very active. Due to the pandemic, she has more available time, and she is contributing even more.

Hey man @AlexandreCampbell How are you doing my friend :+1: . I’ve been waiting for the Recap a while ago, and now you did it :sunglasses: .You know, I didn’t know about the Recap unless I was deleting a bunch of Emails in my inbox, before hit the delete button, I hit to open, then I’ve found the news I could not know about your Recap posted if I wasn’t there in my Emails. I really wanted you to mention us here to let us know. All here mention their attendees in the recap. About the Recap, you did it greatly and I got interested while reading :sunglasses: . That meeting was indeed a great night talk.

Thanks so much , and please let me know if there will be another organized by you.

Very Respectfully
