Connecting my island to the global network

I still remember my first visit outside my island- Mauritius. It was in September 2015 when I went on a business trip to Paris. I knew no one in France to help me find my way out.

I landed on a Sunday morning, took a taxi and reached the hotel. And then what’s next? I had to look where to buy a sim card, where my office was, where I could buy my food etc.? And also, I’m not among those who will stay at the hotel because they knew one in that country. Being a little peripatetic, I decided to venture out alone on the streets of Paris… my only companion being my mobile and google maps. It was then that my adventure with google maps commenced. Taking bus, tram, metro, looking for restaurants and supermarkets… With one touch I found everything I needed. I travelled again in 2017 to 2018.

When I came back in Mauritius, I tried my google maps. But I was surprised that many places are missing and found that google maps is not exploited as it should in my country. Then I decided to contribute as a local guide with the objective of making every places in Mauritius accessible to everyone via google maps. I created some places on google maps and added many photos of places I have been. I also review them and give some tips for everyone willing to visit that place. My recent contribution is a temple (Shree Devi Draupadee Amen Kovil) where many devotees visit during Cavadee (a popular festival in Mauritius). I hope that these contributions will make everyone discover new places in Mauritius
