Connect Live 2020 application - What's the most interesting thing you've done as a Local Guide?

My husband and I had been camping for five months at the time when he decided to surprise me with a ‘ditch the tent’ birthday trip to Bali. We had slowly made our way to Darwin, Australia and my birthday was coming up so he found some cheap flights and away we went on our two and a half hours flight.

After months of being a tight ass and eating canned beans and rice – like contestants from I’m a celebrity get me out of here – it was nice to splurge for my birthday. We went to Fire at Bali W which costs about $100 each - almost the same cost as our entire accommodation but we had to treat ourselves.

The feast was magical. There were sooooo many food stations from oysters, cheese, bread, noodles and tacos but the amazing part was we could order fancy stuff off the menu too. So of course we ordered the grilled tuna, fillet steak and snapper on top of eating at least one of everything from the food stations. Our guts were so full after all of this, but there was more.

The dessert cave had anything and everything from delectable macarons and chocolate dipped strawberries from the fountain, to extravagant cakes and fresh crepes on demand. We turned into gluttonous piglets and had a bite of everything.

Our three hour brunch was certainly a feast we’ll always remember and one our stomachs we’re craving. We were also lucky to experience their full blown band dancing with tambourines and drums while singing happy birthday for me. The entire restaurant was enjoying the show while my face turned beetroot and I had tears of laughter streaming down my face. Our lovely waitress gave us the cake and a mug as a gift when we left.

Service and food was A one and would recommend to everyone who wants to spoil themselves.

I also have footage of the singing but it was too big to post…

PS: I hope our wonderful experts find a cure for Cov-19 soon so we can all continue to enjoy being a Local Guide.

Thanks Rose
