Hello Local Guides!
I noticed that some parks in Sao Paulo have double names and I don’t know why it happens.
Do you think that it is correct to merge them? Let me show you an example:
This place is Parque do Povo and as you can see it has two times the same name. It makes me and other users confuse. Take a look in the next image…
Reviews are given to both names, but in fact they are the same place. I don’t see any difference on them. One place has 13.000 reviews and the other has 2.000 reviews.
I appreciate your help.

Hello @RogerOhayashi those indeed seem to refer to the same place. The one with 13000 reviews seems to be the official one, as that is claimed (the other one still has the ‘Claim this business’ button), so you could mark the other one as duplicate.

Hi @JanVanHaver
The one with lower reviews has the park symbol, because of that I was unsure which one was the official.
How did you decide/know which is the official or not? Is there any type of google identification to it?
Thank you for your answer!!!

@RogerOhayashi you can only figure out which one is the ‘official’ one using indirect clues - in this case
- it has a phone number, the other not
- it is claimed, the other not
As for the park symbol: that seems to be due to the fact that the 2 also have a different category: the ‘official’ one is ‘Park’ , the other one ‘City park’ (which comes with the nice symbol). As it is indeed a park in a city, you could perhaps suggest a category edit on the ‘official’ one before you suggest the merge (when the 2 POIs have the same category that also increases the chance of getting the merge approved).

Hi @RogerOhayashi
Interesting case you found. Merging places with thousands of reviews and photos is never easy. I think places get more resistant to major edits the more reviews and photos they have. I have posted about this earlier.
In order to successfully merge the two you probably need to make all fields in the listings exactly the same. Please take a look here. You may even need to change the language on your device to be able to check if the names match in all languages.
Best of luck. Please keep us updated on your progress.
Cheers

I found my old text on this:
Unshakable listings
In my experience, a frequent explanation as to why an edit is denied is this: Well-established places are simply harder to edit. If there are many pictures and many reviews and no fields are left empty such listings are a lot more stable, robust and immune to edits. I think it makes a lot of sense mainly because such places are of high value to spammers and I think popularity over a long time should have a protective effect.
Examples are very popular attractions and department stores with thousands of pics and reviews.
The reverse is also true. It is a lot easier to get edits approved if the place has no pictures and reviews. Also if most of the fields are empty, it’s a pretty good sign that your edit will be approved.
Cheers

Sometimes there are two because one has come from the previous MapMaker product and one has come from an “official” source or been added by a Local Guide even though there is already one there. As @JanVanHaver has said you can mark one of them closed using edit by reason “duplicate” and you’ll be prompted to nominate the duplicate.
Sometimes one is editable and one is not, in this case, use the send feedback feature to request them be merged.

Thank you @JanVanHaver , @MortenCopenhagen and @PaulPavlinovich
Your comments helped me to have a better view of this problem. Actually, as you mentioned, both locations have many reviews, and it will be hard to join them.
I will try to find a pattern with other parks in Sao Paulo, and I honestly don’t know if the park symbol was created by a Local Guide or by Google.
I got this “report duplicate” idea from Julien in our last french meet-up. I think it’s a new feature… let’s try.
I’ll send you any news that I may have

It is actually fairly common for places made before and after the Local Guides functionality @RogerOhayashi good on you for helping to clean up. Sometimes the only way to get it sorted out is to use the send feedback option.

Nossa, que ótimo! Eu sempre tive essa dúvida @RogerOhayashi . em alguns lugares aqui em BH são assim, mas eu colocava duplicado e nunca era aprovado. Agora já consigo entender melhor o que pode ter acontecido.
