Compromised Password - Help.

In doing a Google Security check, Google stated that my password here is comprimised.

In Google Security, it shows me the “password”, but it’s def not one I’ve ever seen/used before. I came here to update my password, but I can’t find any place to do this.

Where can I update myt password for Local Guides Connect?

Hi @JR_Curley , how are you?

There is not a password for Local Guides Connect.

In here you are Logged in directly with your Google account.

So if there is a risk for your password, the one you have to change is the one of the Google accounts itself.

Here you can find all the suggestions about protecting your passwords: General security information

Hi @ErmesT !

When I use Google Security to check my accounts, it clearly states (image below) that Local Guides Connect is compromised. If that means it’s my primary Google account that’s compromised, I’ll change that password ASAP (but it sounds like they’re the same?).

Curious if anyone else is experiencing/sees this when they do a Google Security check?

I never had this kind of issue, @JR_Curley , but for extra security let me tag a Google Moderator in your post, to check it with the team.

@InaS

Edit;

In any case, yes, the password is the one of your account.

Just curious: have you installed on your device the “virtual App” that chrome is suggesting to install?

Thanks @ErmesT !

I have not installed the “app” via Chrome. Sharing a screenshot of how it appears on Chrome on my PC to make sure we’re referencing the same thing.

Yes, @JR_Curley we are talking about the same subject. Thanks for the feedback, I am sure it can help

When Connect first started it did have its own passwords @JR_Curley @ErmesT but was altered to single sign on with your Google Account a few months after it was initially launched to the people asked to come and test it out but before it went widely public. It might be that password. I don’t know how you could actually change it now that we have SSO turned on. It used to be on this screen https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/user/myprofilepage/tab/personal-profile

Thanks @PaulPavlinovich That link you shared takes me to my profile page, which shows my username, but I don’t seen any area I can see/update my password.

When I go through Google Security, I can actually see the username and password that it’s stating is “compromised”, and I don’t recognize either. It doesn’t show an ID number. Paul, do you know if there was a generic username/password used for an “admin” type account? What I’m seeing looks more like it’d belong to an admin vs. a random person.

Is there anyone from Google who can help with this? I’d rather not have to change my main Google password when I don’t even know if doing that will solve this issue.

Perhaps @InaS can help with this. You might need to share some details directly @JR_Curley if this is necessary Ina might contact you off platform.

For Ina’s benefit, JR is one of the founding Local Guides and likely had access to Connect as part of the early access that a few hundred if us were involved in. At that time Connect did have it’s own localised password.

@PaulPavlinovich and @InaS

A participant in the EuroMeetup who is also from the early steps of Connect got the same warning. So I think Paul is on to something here.

Hi @JR_Curley ,

Thanks for reaching out. To help you secure your accounts, Google can notify you if it finds any of your saved passwords that could be weak/reused or is compromised. Since on the newer version of Connect, you don’t have a password for your account, and you directly log in with the Google account, we would highly suggest you change your Google account password.

Thank you @ErmesT , @PaulPavlinovich , and @MortenCopenhagen for tagging me.

Interestingly I don’t have a warning. Probably chrome simply doesn’t know the Connect of old password for me

Paul

Thank you @InaS

Can you share why the Username and password I see via Google Security is NOT my Google Account username and password?

If I go into the Google Security I see the following.

  • When I click on “Change Password”, it literally just auto-takes me into Local Guides Connect. There is no way to change any password from this button.

  • When I click on “View Password”, it shows me a password that I never created.

  • When I click on “Update Saved Password”, it shows me a Username and Password, neither that I recognize. The Username is NOT my username.

I’ve included a screenshot below, but I replaced the Username with a generic “NOT MY USERNAME” in this image, as I’m unsure if the other username should be shared publicly. The actual username present in this field doesn’t look like a username someone would use outside of a Google Employee.

Should I try to update both the Username and Password here, even though neither are mine? What does the language below mean about “Make sure the password you’re saving matches…”?

Any update @InaS to my question below, “Should I try to update both the Username and Password here, even though neither are mine? What does the language below mean about “Make sure the password you’re saving matches…”?”

Hi @JR_Curley ,

Unfortunately, I cannot help you with questions related to Google security. Please, for further questions, you can reach out in Google Account Help Community.

To change your Google Account password, you can follow the steps here.

@InaS I’ve attempted to post on the Google Account Help Community, however there has been no response or assistance.

Feeling a bit like I’m caught in the middle here…is there any specific person who can assist me with this?
