The first time you take your first DSLR (or mirrorless) camera, you think you will change the world with your incredible photos! But…You take your first shot, the second, a few hundred photos, and they still look the same. They look ok. Something like that:
But something is missing. This “something” make a diferrence between this photo and, for example, this:
Composition
Composition is something that can dramatically change your photos. Composition is simply the way you arrange the key elements or subjects in a scene. You can use symmetry, “The Rule of Thirds”, use leading lines and other ways.
Symmetry composition
Symmetry in composition = two halves of an image hold the same weight. Composition was missing in the first photo and you can see symmetry composition in the second. When you see symmetry - practice photographing, it will help you to improve your vision. This photo, #3 will be with symmetry too:
The Rule of Thirds
The rule suggests to place main objcts on one of intersections of the lines (two horizontal and two vertical 1\3 lines ). In the next photo #4 I used this imagine grid: my hand is right at this intersection and columns are placed right in the right place.
This will be more informative:
Shoot From Lower Angle
Sometimes you can take a shoot from a lower angle and see that there is a very interesting view from there. You can include foreground objects or make your portraits, objects look very expressively.
Conclusion
So, using composition is a right way to enhance your photos to the next level. But only practice, not theory, will help you to understand how to properly use this knowledge. So, go for a walk and take a great photo!
