Compass: Columbus : : Local guides : Me

  • What does the Local Guides program mean to you?*

As a curious kid in my childhood, I always wondered about the world. How the world was formed? or how maps were made?. My silly mind always thought that the printed form of maps existed since the discovery of language. But my knowledge expanded when I realised that explorers like Christopher Columbus, Marco Polo Vasco Da Gama etc., had a pivotal role in exploring the world.

These explorers started exploring the world when there were no Google Maps and Local guides to guide them throughout. So what did it mean to them to explore the world? For some, the search of spice gave them the motivation, while for some the dream of conquering the world and for others, the sole motivation was they wanted to travel the world and explore places, meet new people and exchange culture traits.

I belong to the last category. I want to travel the world, explore places, meet new people and understand their culture. For this to happen, Google local guides program is the best tool. For me, It can be compared to a compass that first world explorers had as a tool. The basic mandatory tool required for travelling. And Google maps without Local guides would be like a warm beer Or Zebra without stripes.

I intent to travel a lot, I have done solo trips, road trips, with friends and family and I make sure I add places, photos, review, anything that could help others better know the place. That is how much Local guides program means to me. I also take this opportunity to congratulate every local guide out there for their contribution to help me and many others to make this world travel friendly.

Cheers to Local Guides Program!
