Thanksgiving 2020 was pretty special, as we were able to spend it with some close friends. A special occasion deserves a special dessert, so, I decided to make a Dark Chocolate Tart.
If the above picture tempted you into trying this, here goes the recipe. The tart has a shortbread crust with dark chocolate ganache as the filling. ?
Ingredients
For the Shortbread Crust:
All purpose flour – 1 cup
Salt – 1/8 teaspoon
Powdered sugar – 1/3 cup
Cold unsalted butter – 1/2 cup
Chocolate Ganache:
Heavy Cream – 1.5 cups
Dark chocolate baking chunks – 1 cup
Sea salt (optional) – a pinch
Procedure
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
First step is to prepare the shortbread crust. In a food processor, place the flour, sugar, butter and salt and process to combine. Pulse until the pastry starts to come together and form clumps.
Lightly butter, or spray with a non-stick vegetable spray, an 8 or 9 inch tart pan.
Transfer the pastry to the prepared pan and evenly press the pastry onto the bottom and up the sides of the pan using your fingertips. (Tip: Use the back of a spoon to smooth the surface of the pastry.)
Pierce the bottom of the crust with a fork. (This will prevent the pastry crust from puffing up while it bakes.)
Cover and place the pastry crust in the freezer for 15 minutes to chill.
Finally, bake the pastry crust for 13-15 minutes in the center rack.
Next, we will work on the dark chocolate ganache filling.
Heat 1.5 cups of heavy cream over low-medium heat in a saucepan on the stove. (I recommend doing this on stovetop, rather than microwave, as the microwave doesn’t heat the cream evenly.)
Do not let the cream boil. As you start to see simmers around the edges of the cream, turn off the stove.
Place the dark chocolate chunks in a heat-safe bowl, and pour the hot cream over the chocolate.
Let it sit for 5 minutes and allow the warm cream to melt the chocolate.
Stir until the chocolate is completely melted and combined with the cream. The ganache is ready!
Here’s a final photo of the tart when we served it. Needless to say, it tasted as amazing as it looks! Everyone enjoyed second helpings of the tart, and food being a binding force among people, it truly made our Thanksgiving special. ?
Hi, @Sheetal_RS , thank you for taking part in the #communitychefchallenge. I loved how you presented your recipe, detailedly, with awesome photos. Thank you very much. I’m sure that I’d love your tart because I’m the biggest dark chocolate fan.
But I need to admit that although I love to cook, I’m not so good at making desserts. Maybe, I can dare to make your recipe one day.
Hey @BorrisS , thanks so much for the appreciation I do bake cakes often, but this was the first time that I tried making a tart and it just had to be a chocolate one (I love dark chocolate!)
The Bourdaloue tart looks so delicious! I had never heard of it before and I looked it up online. Looks like it has pear in it? Thanks for sharing the picture!
