Community Photo Challenge #CommunityLive2020

Welcome photo lovers! And I know there are a LOT of you here on Connect!! Without a doubt, seeing all the fantastic photos that the community have shared through the years, has been an amazing experience.

Your photos are like a portal to your world allowing all of us to visit and see for ourselves what your neighbourhood is like, to drool over the super delicious looking food that you’ve eaten or to gaze in wonder at the places that you’ve travelled to!

That’s the power and beauty of photos!

The Challenge:

We are almost at the end of 2020, so let’s take a stock of all the photos that we’ve taken this year and share our fondest memory with the community! This… is your chance to showcase your very best photo: it could be a stunning view that you’ve captured or maybe it’s because it represents a treasured memory! But here’s the twist: it’s not just any photo, it’s got to be a Google Maps photo!

Requirements:

:clock1: In a Connect post, submit ONE photo of your choice, taken this year, that you have uploaded to Google Maps. Your post can be in any language!

:clock2: Include the link to the photo in Google Maps.

:clock3: Describe what the photo is all about, what it means to you and what makes it a great photo.

:four_leaf_clover: Explain how you think that photo would help the business listing.

This is quite a tricky challenge because photos on Google Maps are usually more functional rather than pretty! But the two do not need to be mutually exclusive! In fact, I would highly encourage folks to improve their photo contributions by taking beautiful, yet functional photos for Google Maps.

So, what makes a good photo? Here are some stuff that I would consider:

  • A nicely lit photo that shows the subject/object well
  • Horizon is straight
  • It’s in focus and not blurry
  • Has a great photo composition
  • Framing is done well
  • The tone of the shot is balanced
  • The colours are natural (not over saturated and also not too desaturated)

This is really going to be a fantastic challenge indeed. Through this challenge we will be able to see the creativity and the importance of a photo that led the local guide to take and upload a particular photo. Thanks a lot for arranging this nice challenge @AdrianLunsong My best wishes to all the Challengers!!

Hello @AdrianLunsong and yet another interesting challenge. The preamble to this new challenge suggests that a Local Guide could choose a photo of some scene “it could be a stunning view that you’ve captured or maybe it’s because it represents a treasured memory!” however, the requirements suggests that it needs to be of a business "Explain how you think that photo would help the business listing. To avoid any possible confusion or uncertainties, would you please clarify this.

@AdamGT Any POI on Google Maps where you are allowed to upload a photo counts.

So a scenic capture might be something like this:

An interesting capture might be like this:

A treasured memory (e.g. where you proposed to your partner):

If folks submit a photo of the store front to 7-Eleven… there had better be a super story to that!!

@AdrianLunsong donde subimos estas fotografías? Gracias!

Dear friend, @AdrianLunsong ,

As I have mentioned to you, I would like to attend this challenge too, for the same cause - Yercaud - An Amazing Hillstation with Sheverayan Climate & Hospitality - Tamilians are well known for their hospitality…

I have added a couple of Places (Close to 100 Small businesses) in September / October, along with a few photos. In just less than a month, one of the photo’s view has gone above 3,000. I feel happy that I could not only help the viewers but also could list a good property, which was not available on Google Maps.

I am participating in the spirit of being with all…
