On Sunday, July 14th Devon Alberta’s green thumbs worked hard creating a garden tour. It celebrated civic pride, environmental responsibility and beautification. The event was organized by Devon’s Communities in Bloom committee. Many volunteers handed out maps and welcomed enthusiasts who drove around town like they were on a reality TV show. Garden themed were vast: manicured and natural, small to large, edible, scent and bee/bird themed, ornamental, exotic and native. Some yards on the rural exterior participated, but being a total flake, I stayed in town and did one twice. The homeowners gave the tours and they were as interesting as their ideas. A gardener plans all winter, images each plant, and then watches the show like slow-motion fireworks. We talked composting, bunnies, deer, and growing one’s own food. Now that I’ve been in Devon’s best gardens, I understand why wedding parties drop by in limos for group pics. Summer 2019 was 20 mins of sunlight here and there between something like 53 days of rain in a row. All while breathing in forest fire smoke from BC and Northern Alberta. As a result more gardeners greeted us with an apology, “Next year will be better!”

Hello @Crazychicktwo ,
Thank you for taking us on this beautiful garden tour. The photos are simply beaitul, I love all of them, especially the one with the globe. It looks like you took it with your phone, did you edit it with any application afterwards?
I would love to visit this place one day and take the tour myself once I visit Alberta. Do you know if they are any areas designated for picnics? I imagine it might be the best place for such an activity.
P.S. If you want to see more photos of flowers, you can check our own virtual Local Guide’s garden. There are many wonderful pictures that you can enjoy looking at.
