Comments Updating Issue.

Hello!!

Everyone.

Since, last 5 months this issue is still not solved.

Note: it’s comments issue. But it’s relates to title of the post.

The Title of the post is always Matter. And we have facility to reedit our content.

When we set our title of the post, after that we publish our post.(Title 1-Original old title)

Sometimes we Change our Post’s title,(Title2-Updated new title)

after that when we get notifications related to that post,

Title 1 displayed instead of Title 2.

For Example,

I publish my post with title,

My 5 Favorite Places in Ahmedabad.

Then, I Change my mind and reedit my title, and write,

My Amazing places of Ahmedabad.

But, I will receive notifications based on Title 1(My 5 Favorite Places in Ahmedabad.)

Not, Title 2(My Amazing places of Ahmedabad).

I think we need to title updation on connect.

I know first title of the post remember by many local guides. Updating new title will be make difficulties.

Same here with that post’s all comments.

Connect Emails are always updated with our title updation.

But, Connect Notifications are unfortunately not updating with our updation.

What are you think?

Must needed to updation of Title.

By notifications, of the connect.

Not about Connect Emails.

Hello @KishorMali

I searched the site to find the post mentioned by you. I did not find any post which contains either of the title mentioned by you.
Did you change the title further?
Nevertheless, a user will keep on changing the title the “n number of times”. The database has to register the post with some unique identity. Distinguishing that with the one used at the first instance is the right way of not losing the track.

“first instance is the right way of not losing the track.”

Yes, I agree and I know that also.

But, Title Updation is also important thing, that we don’t ignore.

Ah I see. I don’t recall seeing this reported before. I’ve just done a test and cannot reproduce the problem @KishorMali

I created a post called 1 - Testing reported bug, then I changed its title with an edit to 2 - Testing reported bug and had fellow moderator @PennyChristie give it a like and as you can see in both feeds (full page and abridged from Mr Jingles) the notification has the new title.

Thanks for pointing me to the right direction.

Yes, I got it.

Misunderstanding happened with me.

The comments of the post with their old title will displayed in connect notifications feed.

Means when we update our title of the post,

It’s don’t affects to comments.

When someone likes our comments or writing their replies on our that post, we received the notifications based on our old title of the post.

Here, is real and recent example.

Means other local guide like our post then it’s shows updated title notifications.

But, when other local guide like our that post’s comments,we received notifications based on our old title.

This is the matter.

The green latter in above image is my updated Title.

By mistakenly, I write original.

This is because every comment is actually a post by itself in Connect that is related to your post. They retain the title of the original post because that is their title. Editing your title should affect subsequent comments but not those lodged before you changed the title @KishorMali

Agree. But it’s create confusion for author of the post.

The Emails that we are received that all are based on updated title of the post.

But, the connect’s notifications are doesn’t updated.

Both are having one aim.

Why both are different in term of Updation?

Is that it seems like connect notifications don’t change with Updation nature?

Avoiding to continuously modify the post will help you @KishorMali , BTW, as you are the author of the post, you should know what the original title was.

E.g.: I am responding to @PaulPavlinovich 's first reply. His reply was written before you modify the title from “Title Updating Issue” to “Comments Updating Issue”, so it is retaining the original title. The notification to you about my reply will refer to the old title.

This is not an issue, nor a bug, this is simply how the forum works.

Same will be for the likes. Best practice to avoid confusion is:

  • Think a bit longer about the title of your post
  • Do not modify title and content, once you posted

The real issue of modifying title and post content (like you frequently do) is to create confusion on the readers side, because frequently (due to your modifications) the replies appear to be totally unrelated to the post.

It is not the different title the origin of the confusion, but the simple fact that the author of the post (YOU) changed it

Hello @KishorMali

I recommend, let the notification have all the versions of titles with labels Edit 1, Edit 2, 3, 4 etc. That way everyone responding to that post would be able to keep a perfect track of the changes. Isn’t that a good proposition for posting in the Idea Exchange?

Hey!!! @ErmesT

Yes, I know that develop the higher practice to set one permanent title of the my post, so that don’t need to change title frequently.

And there is no need to do modifications.

But, you need to understand that in this post, @PaulPavlinovich helps me to the right direction.

And I found that ,

Emails are updated with post’s new title but connect’s notifications are not.

Regarding title of the post,

After Paul’s comment to my post,

I understand that it’s not title issue.

It’s comment issue in reference of post’s title.

And I and Paul do the experiment with each other :wink: , for finding the right thing. So, we can find the exact conclusion and problem.

In my opinion, Emails are updated but the connect’s notifications are not, it’s create confusion for author of the post because both are having different title.

So, I thought both are need to same.

Thanks for your detailed reply.

Why Emails are updated? Can you give me the answer.

@C_T

Yes, this is my Idea.

@C_T @ErmesT @PaulPavlinovich

Here, is another example.

@ErmesT (1 hour ago)

@C_T (35m ago).

I know C_T give me reply based on previous comment,

But, When ermest wrote his first reply, I received notification based on old Title.

Updation is always helpful.

EDIT: @KishorMali , have you even read my reply? my explanation is already in there

Original content:

Again, NO.

The mail notification are referring to the Thread title (the first post) While notifications in Connect are more detailed, and refers to a single, and specific, reply.

In this way we can keep track on the changes.

Again, if you change the title and content of your post, this is not an issue of Connect, @KishorMali

I disagree about adapting / changing the title of the comments according to the updated title of the post, because someone was responding to your post “before the change” and this should be always know.

Every reply in Connect is retaining the title of the post (or reply) we are responding to so, even if I respond after you changed the title, the title of my reply depends of “where I am responding”

@ErmesT

But, in some cases we need to change our title of the post.

BTW, author is updating his own post, then emails are agree, but connect notifications are not. :joy:

After Your Reply,

The First is the Last.

location is also important factor, that we don’t forget it.

@ErmesT

Yes, I got it.

“EDIT: @KishorMali , have you even read my reply? my explanation is already in there”.

You are clicked on the reply button of first comment by Paul. So I got notification based on old title.

The logic of a thread Structure is simple @KishorMali

Hope the next graphic will help you to understand why there is not an issue in the notifications.

Basically the title of the reply depends on “where” you reply, and the notification will come consequently.

I know that this is difficult to understand on a Linear (time based) Layout, and I have escalated this already. But this is a different issue.

I will write soon an idea about that
