In my opinion you can ask friends to join and help you contribute and add places on Google Maps, so more people around the world can see your reviews and even visit your region. As @PaulPavlinovich suggested, try engaging with some other Local Guides who are living in Africa or even better, you can host a meet-up.
I recommend creating a meet-up on our meet-up site and interested Local Guides in your area can indicate their interest via RSVP. You can share your meet-up more widely on your social channels, which may garner your friends or family to become Local Guides too!
Some more information that may be helpful, especially if it’s your first time hosting:
Hello!
Hi @Gloire_Congo It can be difficult to convince people that Maps will benefit them directly in time, but they need to add data to benefit others now. I wouldn’t worry too much about that aspect, I would emphasise that it is fun and the points climb and badges are a great way to get early interest. A more detailed experience will come with time to those who choose to share in it. As @MoniV has suggested holding Meetup (food crawl, photo walk, geowalk, Mapping, etc.) with your friends and maybe their friends is a great way to start. As is often said, from little things bit things grow.
You can certainly point out that if they contribute positively and enthusiastically on Maps and here on Connect that they stand a chance to join the 150 top Local Guides from around the world attend a live event in San Francisco all expenses paid. That is certainly a massive incentive - it certainly helps keep me going every year because it is a highlight of the Local Guides calendar.
Hi @Gloire_Congo assuming the event is like previous years (2016, 2017, 2018) then the early in 2019 an announcement will be made requesting people who are interested to apply. Those that get to go tend to:
have excellent Maps contributions
organise Meetups
active and positive here on Connect
There were quite a few wonderful people from various African countries last year and it was an absolutely pleasure to meet with and talk with them about their homes.
I can only say how it has happened in the past @Gloire_Congo because if there is one thing Google loves it is change so who knows what tomorrow might bring. In the past events an announcement has been made and interested people fill out an application form and make a one minute introductory video that explains what they will get out of attending and what they hope to contribute. Of course many many applications are received so the Googlers have hard work to do reducing that number down to the 150 who are subsequently invited to attend.
In past events Google reimburse any visa costs and pay for airfares and accommodation during the event itself (any extra is up to the participant) and provides all the food during the event itself.
