Columbus, Ohio and Nature

If you live in Columbus or are just visiting, we have tons of metro parks in and around the area. In fact, Columbus even owns the website metroparks.net.

There are countless trails and activities. For photography, they allow great experiments for experimenting with natural lighting or a place in nature to set up a photo shoot. Year-round, they offer a great reprieve from the drudgery that can be city life.

Just a few photos I’ve taken, highlighting the parks:

Gorgeous photos, @TWayneBauer !

I would never have expected these images to be from the Columbus area. They make me realize there are many parts of the country I have overlooked and need to revisit again. What are your favorite Columbus outdoor activities?

Haha, for real. Ohio, especially the middle is seen as just flat and boring - but there’s a lot here. My favorite activity is to find lesser traveled trails that lead to great views. Bonus if there’s a motorcycle ride to get to the trail.

Hi @TWayneBauer ,

Welcome to Connect!

Wow, the photos are outstanding, would you mind sharing a bit of which equipment were used during the trip?

I would take a guess that the photos were taken during different time of the year, am I correct? : ]

For a starter, we would recommend checking the basic reading on Connect with 14 helpful tips for using Connect , so you might want to share a bit about yourself and find out more in our monthly Introduce Yourself topic .

Great questions. Yes these were at different times of the year to highlight some of the parks around the area. Most photos were taken with a Canon 6d Mark II (any two years old it greater would be a Canon t6i) and a mix of a Tamron 70-200 G2, canon 24-70 2.8/II, and any wide shots with a Sigma Art 20mm.

I use to live in Columbus and you did a great job bringing out the beauty of the surrounding nature. I remember a beginning photography class at OSU that opened my eye to the hidden world around me. You obviously have seen it and have a great eye to capture it. Awesome job and keep up the great work!

Gorgeous photos, @TWayneBauer !

You definitely wouldn’t think Ohio at first, but wow I love how diverse it is. The photo with the deer is so beautiful! What kind of editing program do you use?

I’m mostly shooting with my iPhone X and I’m pretty satisfied with the quality, although I’m considering to get an iPhone lens now.

Thanks @Vinay_K

The camera is a Canon 6D II for a majority of the photos.

Hi @DanniS thank you!

I use Lightroom classic to do 100% of my editing.

The beauty of trails and nature parks often makes me wonder what part of mother nature isn’t commendable!

These pictures are utterly mesmerizing. Never knew parts of Ohio could be this gorgeous. @TWayneBauer I believe the location to all these pictures differ, right?
