This is something I’ve been meaning to start a conversation about. I’m Jamaican and I mostly travel within my country. As someone who grew up on this island that’s considered to be paradise. Big surprise, it’s not. We have our fare share of issues.
As a native of this island I’ve constantly felt unappreciated by my people. After visiting multiple tourist spots i realised I was treated differently than my white/lighter counterparts. It hurts even more that this Ill treatment i receive is from my own people. Due to institutionalised ignorance and white supremacy. When I walk into any establishment people don’t try to assist, people aren’t polite but, as soon as one of my lightskin/white friends enter they’re welcomed with open arms.
