My name is Kamal Hossen Rana and I am a resident of Barishal, Bangladesh.
As a Local Guide I am a firm believer in environmental conservation and trying to do my best to help the planet. One of the ways I have been contributing is by collecting used plastic bottles in my area and along the banks of the Kirtankhola river. In this article, I would like to share my experience of collecting 8.3KG of used plastic bottles and how I hope it can inspire others to do the same. I encourage you to do something in your own place to keep our planet healthy.

Why I started collecting used plastic bottles:
As we all know, plastic waste is a huge problem globally and it poses a significant threat to our environment. I decided to start collecting used plastic bottles after seeing the negative impact it has on our surroundings. The River near my home were littered with plastic waste and the Kirtankhola river was polluted with plastic bottles. This motivated me to take initiative and do my part to do something for the environment.

How I collected 8.3KG of used plastic bottles:
To start my collection, I made it a daily habit (in my Eid-ul-Fitr holidays) to go out for a morning walk around my area and along the banks of the Kirtankhola. I carried a bag with me and picked up any plastic bottles I found along the way. I also encouraged my friends and family to do the same and to bring their collected plastic bottles to me. Through this method, I was able to collect 8.3KG of used plastic bottles in just 8 days (April 21-28)

Collecting 8.3KG of plastic bottles has been a very small but significant step towards reducing plastic waste and pollution in my community.
I would like to encourage everyone to do their part in helping the environment and as a Local Guide, you have the power to make a difference in your community by taking action to reduce plastic waste. Collecting used plastic bottles is just one small step towards, but it can make a big impact if more people get involved. Together we can make a difference and create a better world for ourselves and future generations.
