My contributions as a Google local guide consists of many restaurants reviews, there’s a big reason for that. First of all, some background: I grew up in the capital city of Abuja in Nigeria, growing up in a relatively new city such as mine meant that the city was growing right along with me. Year to year things changed, new places opened up and life consisted of my family and I trying out these new places.
Then I went away to go to University, and for the better part of six years I made a new home thousands of miles away from Abuja. When I moved back, my city had grown immensely, just like me. There were so many new places and I wanted to try them all, especially as I was now an adult and charting my way through once-familiar waters by myself.
Since I had started driving I needed help getting around town. I turned to Google maps first for directions and then for useful information such as opening times and contact details. In the course of doing so I saw reviews from many different people, complete with pictures that gave me an idea what to expect whenever I got to my destination. This information was extremely helpful to me. Needless to say, when my phone prompted me to become a Google local guide, I didn’t need to think twice 
So why do I love to share about restaurants and places to hang out? I think balance is very important, as a young adult, I am just starting out in my career and it’s easy to get so focused on it that I forget to actually live life. For me, going out to good restaurants, having good food and tasty drinks offer me much needed rest after a long day. Work days differ and so do my moods, some days I’m in the mood for a light meal in a calm serene environment with soft music and other days I want the hustle and bustle of a busy city bar. Google local guides’ reviews enable me to make the right choice for my mood and I love that I am able to contribute to that.
My favourite places to review change every few months but right now I’m keeping my eyes peeled for the best cocktail bar (p.s. I may have already found one! See my list here https://goo.gl/maps/xeM321SpqPT2) and the best international cuisine in Abuja.
