Closed or Temporary Closed?!

Hello Team,

I believe that there is something wrong on Maps. It is about the difference between:

Permanent Closed

And

Temporary Closed

I thought that Temporary Closed due to Corona is set by Google and also will be taken away when the period ends.

While I find many places who have permanent closed status, but this is not true and in my understanding it will not open after the time…

As well there are shops who are in fact temporary Closed, but this is not shown in Google. Temporary Closed can Not be set by the User.

For some owners is a really hard time and they have selling still via Internet like bookstores.

Is there a possibility to adjust something on GoogleMaps Side?

Hi @TorM

There is an Important activity on Google My business side to keep the information updated on all the businesses

In this very moment there are activities prioritized, and the best thing we can do is … do nothing.

Local Guides cannot flag a business as “temporary closed” for the simple reason that we do not have a crystal sphere to predict the future, so we can only report the status (open or closed) as it is at the moment when we report. I know that a lot of Local guides would love to edit the places as closed (five points) but who can guarantees that the same local guides will reopen the business at the end crisis?

So I definitely agree with the actual limitations, as indicated in Temporary product changes in Google Maps .

What GMB is doing is setting as temporary closed (Yes, a business can do that, for the obvious reason that they will not forget to open the listing again) to all the businesses that, by Local Law, should stay closed, giving the opportunity to the businesses to modify the status.

GMB is also giving to the businesses the indication for a Covid-19 post with, e.g. updated opening hours, or home delivery only service. Please read: Businesses affected by COVID-19: Provide customers with updated info

My feeling is that they are doing a pretty good job, and I will let them work, adding only my reviews and photos.

Just now, I am having a home delivered dinner by a local restaurant

I do not want to say @TorM , that we just have to watch, but probably the best thing that we can do is to make aware the business of the various option that they have. If you check the article, you will see that the opening status, is changed by the business itself, will be applied instantly

Hello @ErmesT ,

Not sure if I was clear enough.

I found many businesses NOT clamed by the owner and market like permanent closed. This is not correct. I thought the current restriction is ensuring this.

And No, GMB is not automatically setting this for all businesses as temporary closed by law.

Excample: Daughter & Son Kinder- und Jugendmode Accessoires für die Mamas
Kirchpl. 9A, 82049 Pullach im Isartal

Additional:

I found e.g. some schools on GoogleMaps who are Not marked as temporary Closed, but the school beside is Market as temporary closed.

Excample: Erzbischöfliche Pater-Rupert-Mayer-Volksschule Pullach
Wolfratshauser Str. 30, 82049 Pullach im Isartal

I understand from the side you attached that temperory closed for schools is set by Google central.

My Feedback to Google is, that maybe something is not correct with the settings.

I have to agree with @TorM here. I posted a similar thread yesterday and it got buried under a closed idea.Section See here

Not sure who’s marking them permanently closed but it’s not helping the businesses who haven’t claimed their business on google. In my area as well they are marking schools as permanenty closed. There is and will be a lot of work in “Check the facts” in the coming future

Oh, got your point now @TorM

So you mean that some Local Guide is changing the status to closed permanently, and the chance should not be accepted?

And if the school still be open, it means that has not been “automatically” temporary closed by GMB.

I see your point, yes, sorry. You are right, there is something that it is not working correctly on what should be done, according to the GMB communication, automatically

Hi @TorM I understand what you talking about here, which is that some businesses are marked as temporary closed and others are not, I m sure this is because other businesses have people who manages their business and others do not have that, or is simply because their businesses are not claimed.

For those businesses who are not marked as temporary closed, while they are actually closed during the crises of the pandemic, local guides took it by them selves to mark them as permanently closed, since they observed that they are currently closed and the reason might be that it is the only option they have since there is no one managing the business, this is really not a good thing to do, as the temporary closed feature is only available on the owners side.

I have to agree @Raphael-Mahumane Its the same point I was trying to make . Local guides are inadvertently changing Unclaimed businesses to Permanently Closed in my area.

Wish Goggle had a temporary**"closed due to coronavirus "** Instead. It would make things easier for the unclaimed businesses.

Thank you

Hi @TorM ,

Thank you for reaching out about this.

We don’t have any further information to share at this point regarding edits and information display on Google Maps apart from what’s already been shared in this announcement post. As soon as we have more information, we’ll share it with the community, but for the time being, please refer to that post.

I’m going to mark this comment as the solution so that other Local Guides can see it as well. Thank you.
