Surat in the western part of India is known as the diamond capital of the world since about 80% of rough diamonds are cut and polished
here and exported to the world.
While traveling from Delhi to Pune by road last week, my fascination for clock towers caught the attention of this humble structure on the freeway.
Further, a little exploration showed that there was already an existing clock tower in the heart of Surat city.
Without losing time, I clicked a photo and added the clock tower to Google Maps. And it was approved and published in a single minute.
Clock towers are common towers in many Indian cities with some being iconic buildings but this was humble on standing among a crowd
of other insignificant buildings a crowded market in the expressway on the outskirts of Surat.
Long before we started constantly looking down at our phones or glancing at watches on our wrists, clock towers were the best way to
find out the time, especially when on the streets or in a marketplace.
Accessibility Features
The clock tower is closed for entry for security reasons but the superb views can be enjoyed from the outside which is pretty open and accesssible.
