Clock Tower of Aurangabad - Nostalgic Feelings of Childhood

Last month I traveled to my birthplace Aurangabad, located 250 km from Pune which I made home 25 years back.

I spent the first 25 years of my life in Aurangabad which was renamed to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar or simply Sambhaji Nagar recently.

I visited the Clock Tower in the old town which I always used to gaze at as a school kid between the years 1982 -87.

I did not have a wristwatch then.
A wristwatch was bought for me much later in 1988.

I love Clock Towers for their perseverance, standing still in rain and heat, cold and wind, and doing their job of telling the time of the day without anyone asking for it.

In many ways, the clock tower in Aurangabad is like a local guide, like me, who enjoys telling people something useful without being asked for, relentlessly, year after year.

Nice post @TusharSuradkar sir I read your clock tower previous post also, and it is great to read about your curiosity, love, and memories on Clock Tower. Yes, it is really beneficial, and they provide their service without any effort, after all. I’m also intrigued by their structure, particularly antique mechanical technology. I’m also interested in mechanical watches, and I own one, my grandfather’s Swiss mechanical watch. I love their mechanism, and I restored them…thanks for sharing with us .

Thank you, dear @Praniketmore , for the appreciation :+1:

Rightly said, these mechanical marvels are not out of reach for common people, and it is rare to get a chance to climb up the tower to see the mechanism at the top.

and Wow! I’d like to see the Swiss watch if possible.

My first wristwatch too was mechanical and needed to be topped up every 24 hours.

Thank you dear @Raj_Tayade for the appreciation.

But auto took 80 rupees to go there from Bajrang chowk :anguished:

That was too much :grin:

@TusharSuradkar sir ,

I have kept all of my grandfather’s belongings since I was in school, and at the time, I saved some money for repairing and oiling them, but there are still some stuck problems, but the mechanism still works fine. I just took a picture of a watch to show you , is off topic, but I am proud to show that it is his Raksha medal from the 1965 war

Another thoughtful post @TusharSuradkar Sir! It gives a essence of being there, even if you are standing all alone! I really like how you compared the clock tower with local guide, the idea of contributing without asking for perks or positive results! The flow must keep on going, just like clock tower! Keep us connected with such thoughtful approach towards travelling and contributions through your posts and meetups. Best of wishes and always Regards Sir!
