Hello Local Guides,
Happy Earth Month and belated Happy Eid Ul Fitr to all wonderful local guides of the community.
Today before starting my post, I have a question for you. Have you ever regretted adding any place on Google Maps? Most likely a tourist destination?
I do, and you will get the answer after reading more in my post.
To me, Earth Day is equal to Mother’s Day in the sense that just as we can never fully repay our parents for all they have done for us, even if we dedicate our entire lives to them, the same is true for our planet. Therefore, we should treat every day as if it were Mother’s Day and, similarly, consider every day as Earth Day which I learned from Ermest.
On the 21st April most countries of the world were celebrating Eid UL Fitr, a day of Happiness and diversity that comes at the end of the Holy month of Ramadan. On the very next day 22nd April not only some countries, but the whole world celebrated World Earth Day. We saw many great posts on Connect regarding Earth Day like

Before delving into our exciting travel story, allow me to provide some details on the Coastal Belt of Pakistan.
Pakistan’s coastline stretches approximately 1120 Km, with the Makran coast occupying the western area from the Hub River to the Iranian border, spanning approximately 772 Km. The Sindh coast, situated in the southeastern region, runs from the Hub River to Sir Creek on the Indian border and covers approximately 348 Km. (Figures from the internet )
During our recent trip, we set our sights on revisiting the Fishermen Floating Jetty beach, which happens to be my personal favorite owing to its cleanliness and crystal-clear waters and is relatively closer compared to other beaches in Sindh or the neighboring province of Balochistan.
The Fishermen Floating Jetty Beach is situated near Allana Village in District Hub, Balochistan, at a distance of approximately 50 Kilometers from Karachi’s Central District.
The Jetty on the Beach was constructed and officially opened three years ago to provide ease and convenience to local fishermen who previously encountered difficulties while transporting their catch from the sea, boat fuel, and other equipment.
21st of April Eid day was a busy day for all of us, so we decided to do something constructive on the 23rd of April when I (Kashif Misidia), @DrFoodieOfficial (Rizwan Shah), @Bilal_shaikh (Muhammad Bilal) & @Swalay Swalay Muhammad) we all would be free from family visits and food parties
Our journey commenced at Hussainabad food street, after which we traveled through Lyari Expressway and arrived at Hub River Road. From there, we made a non-stop journey to the Fishermen Floating Jetty Beach, it took approx two hours to reach there including our breakfast at Bilal Restaurant.
During our recent visit, we immediately observed that the Fishermen Floating Jetty Beach still retained its reputation as the most tranquil beach we had ever encountered in Pakistan. However, we also noticed that "the level of pollution had escalated" since our last visit.
Let me provide an overview of the first paragraph of the article titled “Have you ever regretted adding any place on Google Maps? Most likely a tourist destination?”
Approximately three years ago, my friends and I, who are local guides, visited the Fishermen’s Floating Jetty Beach for the first time. During that period, this beach was “not a popular tourist destination” as it mainly served as a business location for the nearby Fishermen’s village, Allana Goth. However, after we added this beach as a tourist attraction to Google Maps, we observed a significant increase in reviews and photos in Google Maps, which delighted us.
But Unfortunately, we had no idea that our efforts to promote tourism at this location would result in visitors treating it as a dumping ground for garbage.
During our recent visit to celebrate Earth Day 2023, we were shocked to observe a significant amount of plastic waste littering the beach, including plastic bottles, wrappers, slippers, and bags. However, the most disheartening and distressing sight was the sight of some dead fish on the shore. Upon further investigation, we discovered that plastic had become entangled in the hooks/fins of their skin, and this could have contributed to their unnatural deaths. This realization made us feel a deep sense of shame as we were forced to acknowledge that our careless actions, such as throwing plastic bags into the ocean, could lead to the needless loss of marine life. We could only imagine how many other sea creatures had suffered a similar fate due to pollution in the time between our visits. This raises an important question that we are still grappling with.
I hope now you can understand the reason behind why I asked the question to the local guides community was because I wanted to share my appreciation for discovering new places to add on Google Maps. I highly recommend not missing out on any places that are worth visiting. However, in addition to promoting these locations, it’s important to raise awareness among people about how we should treat our oceans and beaches with the same respect as we do our own homes
Despite the sorrowful tales we have recounted, there are some positive aspects of the Fishermen Floating Jetty beach that I would like to highlight. The most notable feature of this beach is the remarkably clean water and the vast array of shells that can be found there, which is unmatched by any other beach in Sindh. Additionally, the beach’s unique attribute is the presence of exquisite stones and rocks that enhance the clarity of the water by absorbing the waves.
How we tried to fulfill our responsibility on a very small scale :
When we got to the beach, we started to do our job which was cleaning up. People had already started coming to the beach at 11:00 am, which was what we wanted. We brought trash bags with us and started picking up garbage and plastic waste.
We were surprised at how people could throw trash on the beach even though it’s their city and home. We had a lot of questions, like who throws trash in the sea? It’s usually people like us who do it. But we should understand that whatever we throw in the sea comes back to us in the form of food.
We shouldn’t throw anything on the beach because it puts our marine life and ourselves at risk.
We found many things on the beach, such as wrappers, plastic bottles, plates, toys, and plastic bags. The worst thing we found was medical waste, which was dangerous.
People were watching us, and some took photos and videos, which we hope they’ll share on social media to spread awareness about keeping beaches and the sea clean.
We were only four people, so we couldn’t clean the whole beach, but we could raise awareness about waste on beaches and the sea. The sea is a blessing to any country as it feeds us, so we should not ruin it by throwing waste and garbage there.
At the end of this beach Cleaning drive by Local Guides, we had two bags full of waste and garbage, On the way, we saw a huge rubbish bin that was not far from us
So we put all this garbage in the same box on the way back. Which was the right place for this waste, not how it would be there on the beach and in the sea.
After cleaning we felt one very notable thing in us, that it was something which was coming from our inside, it was kind of satisfying or what? Maybe it was happiness or joy that we did a small effort from our side for our planet, even if it wasn’t our first time, but after this meetup, we all agreed to continue this journey of the #LocalaguidesCleanTheWorld campaign in the future as well.
Some Useful Information About Fishermen Floating Jetty Beach:
If you want to go to Fishermen Floating Jetty Beach, you can rent a boat for a small fee of approximately 1800 Pakistani Rupees (6$ USD) per hour or more. However, this beach doesn’t have any public washrooms or resorts, because it’s mostly used by fishermen. Even though it’s not very popular, some people are discovering it through Google search or Google Maps.
Unfortunately, this beach is not wheelchair accessible, as I mentioned in myGoogle Maps review. However, you don’t have to pay any parking or entry fees, but you need to pay toll tax when crossing the border from Sindh to Balochistan.
I think this beach is less crowded than other beaches in Sindh, which is a good thing. However, everyone has the right to visit the beach, but we should take care of it. It’s important to remember that this is our sea, our marine life, and our beach. By treating it as our own and keeping it clean, we can protect the oceanic life and maintain clean seawater. This will ensure that we always have a great experience when visiting the beach.
We should do our best to protect our oceans and beaches from plastic pollution.
I would like to say thanks to Muhammad Bilal, Swalay Muhammad, and Dr foodie official (Rizwan Shah) for joining us on our trip to the amazing Fishermen’s Floating Jetty Beach. You can find more wonderful memories of the trip in this Google Photos Album.
