For all graffiti/street art lovers, The MURAL Festival is one of the greatest events in the world to celebrate creativity and to appreciate the democratization of urban art. This annual international event is held every June in Montreal, in the summertime.
What is MURAL Festival? The first MURAL took place in 2013. By that time, the event was only held for 4 days (but today we have it 10 days!). During the event, local artists, Canadian artists, and international artists are invited to the city to create their artworks, the murals. Besides these art projects, there’re also food trucks, street vendors, and music shows. What can be more fun than this?
How much does MURAL cost?
Good news! It’s free and open to all ages. However, they also offer priced experiences, such as guided tours and artist meetups. I registered the 90 mins guided tour (CAD$ 20+taxes) last year, and I think it’s worth it. During the tour, I learned a lot, from the artist background, artwork inspiration to techniques used.
Where is MURAL held?
Montreal, of course! But exactly where? Since it’s a street art festival, there’s no way to rent a conference hall and showcase it. Instead, the event is held on several streets in Montreal, so better put on a pair of comfortable shoes, and get ready to walk!
This year, the festival is back to Montreal, from June 06 to June 16. It’s coming very soon, right? Only in a week. So, I think it’s a good time for us to have a retrospect of 2018 Mural and be ready to welcome 2019’s! Let’s get it!
Thanks for sharing this cool event with us. Looks like a lot of fun! I’ve been to similar ones here in Europe with art, food and handmade crafts to buy and you can even spend the whole day wondering around. How many times have you been to this event?
Yes, I believe there’re many street art festivals in Europe and I hope one day I could join one!
2018 was my first time being in MURAL (but during the event period, many times). Sadly I ain’t in Montreal this year so can’t go to the 2019’s. However, this event is getting bigger and attracting more and more tourists around the world every year. It’s amazing to see how many people are fascinated by street art right?
Thank you! Yes, it’s a fun festival and is getting bigger and bigger every year. The best thing about this event is that they keep all the murals after the event, which means people can see the artworks from 2013 (the first edition of MURAL festival), 2014… to the most present edition. It’s turning Montreal into a grand street art hub.
Don’t worry and I am happy to help, if you would like to know more detailed information about “Accept as Solution” feature, I recommend you to read this article on How do I mark comments as solutions?
Yes! It’s such a fun festival to experience. It’s can be listed as my top 3 favorite festivals in Montreal lol. I really hope we can have something like the Mural festival in Taipei (my current city). Do you have mural festivals in the city you’re living in?
To my knowledge not in Melbourne, my current city within the state of Victoria, Australia however, there was one scheduled to take place last April in Benalla, another city within the state of Victoria, however, that festival which was called The Wall to Wall Festival was cancelled following COVID-19 public health concerns. It may be rescheduled for another date in 2020.
I googled the festival and it looks very fun. @AdamGT It’s a pity that it has got canceled. But yes, it’s a necessary decision to make. Most public events in Taipei are canceled too.
