City Graffiti: Hidden Alleys in Tainan City

Some people may have read my last graffiti article: City Graffiti: Blueprint Culture & Creative Park, a graffiti hub I visited during my trip to Tainan City, Taiwan. Today, we’re still in Tainan but are visiting different places, or more correctly, alleys, such as Xinmei Street (新美街) and Graffiti Alley (彩繪巷弄).

Both located in West Central District, these two places aren’t well-known destinations but small graffiti areas hidden in alleys. Though there aren’t many pieces, it’s still lovely to drop by and see. Voila! Here comes the graffiti and murals I spotted mostly in these 2 places and a few randomly on the streets.

Star Sign mural on Xinmei Street, Tainan City, Taiwan.

Mural by 許荷西 on Xinmei Street, Tainan City, Taiwan.

Owl graffiti on Xinmei Street, Tainan City, Taiwan.

HA(哈) graffiti in Tainan City, Taiwan.

Movie Characters mural in Tainan City, Taiwan.

Marilyn Monroe art in Tainan City, Taiwan.

Colorful mural in Graffiti Alley, Tainan City, Taiwan.

Trees mural in Graffiti Alley, Tainan City, Taiwan.

Color Collage mural in Graffiti Alley, Tainan City, Taiwan.

Cat Highland in Graffiti Alley, Tainan City, Taiwan.

Among all the art pieces above, which one is your favorite?

The photo “Trees mural in Graffiti Alley, Tainan City, Taiwan” attracts to me since it has both real and painted trees. Thanks for sharing the beautiful graffiti artwork @ChanneLing

@ChanneLing I like the ‘owl’ graffiti and the wall ’ mural’ . City graffiti has become a sort of art culture in many cities nowadays. Good way for artists to showcase their artistic talent and also to bring in visitors to the local areas. There are quite a few such areas with beautiful wall murals and graffiti which showcased local life in my state too. Thanks for sharing your photos.

Hi @CAAG1959 ,

Thank you for the long comment!

Amazing that we share the same passion and enthusiasm for street art.

The art pieces you share with us are beautiful! The red/yellow/blue/white collage painted on the ground really pops up and caught my eyes immediately. My other favorite is the painting of corner houses in the second collage. Though I couldn’t see the painting very clearly, I like the color combination and style.

Wow, it’s nice to know that your city government is supporting this art form. How wonderful to see that street art is getting more and more recognition! Cheers! :hugs:

Hi @Tengyim ,

Thank you for the comment! Glad that you enjoyed this post.

And yessss, it’s amazing to see that graffiti is gaining popularity and recognition, and attracting more and more visitors (like me haha). It has now become my first thing to search while planning a trip (or sometimes the second, only after food lol).

Salud

Un abrazo fraterno desde Uruguay

Hola @CAAG1959 ,

Haha yes, these paintings are definitely valuable and sometimes deliver messages.

By the way, are there gathering places or graffiti spots in your city?

Or is most graffiti scattered around?

Abrazo fraterno.

Hola @CAAG1959 ,

Wow, there will be a new open-air museum?  That’s so cool! I’ve been to a few outdoor graffiti gatherings and sculpture gardens but never an official open-air museum.

A museum is defo a wonderful choice of attraction to attract art amateurs like you and me haha. It seems to be a lot of fun. And yessssss! Please do share with me the photos you take! Thanksssssssss in advance!
