Cipari Archaeological Site is a megalithic heritage site in Kuningan Regency . This site is thought to be an ancient village settlement site with characteristics inherited from megalithic buildings, such as stone tombs and menhirs .
Location
This site is located in Cipari Village , Cigugur Village , Cigugur District , Kuningan Regency , West Java . Located at an altitude of 661 meters above sea level, this site is right at the foot of Mount Ciremai and is about four kilometers from the city of Kuningan, West Java.
Invention and Research.
The Cipari site was discovered in 1972 with the presence of a stone tomb which is a feature of prehistoric culture. Archaeological research / excavation systematically, under the leadership of Teguh Asmar, which began in 1975 to produce kitchenware findings, pottery , bronze , and traces of building foundations. This site is quite complete in describing people’s lives at that time.
Interpretation
Starting from lithology , stragtigraphy , and finding objects, the Cipari site experienced two settlement periods, namely the late Neolithic period and the beginning of the introduction of bronze materials that ranged from 1000 BC to 500 BC. [1]
Communities supporting culture at Cipari Site have known good organizations and beliefs that are closely related to the worship of ancestors by custom building buildings from large or megalithic stones .
The basis of the whole megalithic tradition is the belief in the close relationship between those who are still alive and those who have died for human, livestock and agricultural welfare. There is also the belief that all the goodness or blessings of a dead relative can be centered on monuments which were erected as a medium of respect, becoming the throne of arrival, as well as being a symbol of the dead. Charitable or good services can be obtained by holding certain parties or ceremonies that reach their peak by establishing these monuments. Goodness will not only provide achievements and life but also guarantee a better fate in life after death later.
It thus becomes a protector of one’s behavior and its concentration on the monument will increase wealth, degree, and enhance well-being along with the results of its cultivation.
