End of 19th century, Ludwig II of Bavaria builded this munificent castle.
Ludwig II was only 18 years old when he acceded to the throne. Dreamy and lonely, he didn’t felt much for politics nor economics ; more important for him : promoting art and culture. He had very few friends : his cousine Elisabeth from Austria, better known as “Sissi” and the componist Richard Wagner. The opera “Lohengrin” was a kind of obsession for Ludwig. More and more, he neglected his function and incurred exorbitant expenses, by building castles among others. In 1886, a government coup declared him unable to govern. The following day, he was founded dead, he was 41 years.
Neuschwanstein is a beautiful castle, located in a splendid environment. You cannot access the castle with your car. If you are fit enough, you can climb a small path of 1.5 km but quite abrupt. Another solution : take a carriage pulled by 2 vigourous horses. In this case, you will just have to walk the last 500 meters. Going down walking is quite more easy, but you can use the carriage downwards as well.
Neuswchwanstein Castle inspired Walt Disney for the Cinderella Castle, and the Disney’s studio logo.
