Tradition was kept even in the challenging year of 2020. Municipalities decorated trees, placed Christmas wreaths and nativity scenes on the streets. The Christmas tree of the country is - as always - in front of the Parliament.

Advent is the most atmospheric time of the year. Public spaces are full of fairy lights and full of splendor. For a while now, it’s not just the privilege of people living in big cities. We can increasingly admire holiday decorations in the main squares of small villages and a few hundred people settlements too.
Here is my personal collection of Christmas decorations placed in different four different city’s public spaces of my country, Hungary in 2020.
The first one is from Balatonfüred. In the garden of Vaszary Gallery there is a tall pine tree growing among other nice plants. So it goes without saying that this tall tree is decorated each Christmas. During Advent, the Vaszary Gallery focuses on children and families. They organize various thematic sessions, which are real enjoyable attunement to Christmas. It is nice to visit it all year by the way.
St. Francis of Assisi considered the Nativity to be the most festive event. His name is associated with the custom of nativity scenes, which is widespread throughout the world. The little town Öskü set up a man-sized Nativity scene at the back of the municipal office. They invite people to visit the setup, slow down. Fun fact: they prepared an e-mail address to receive selfies with the mannequins.
Huge Advent wreath at Ábrahámhegy is also a tradition. It is placed between the road and the rail road, so the most people can see it I guess. The inhabitants of the village gather around it under the stars just before Christmas to do a Nativity play or Christmas pageant.
The Christmas tree of Hungary decorates Kossuth Square in Budapest, in front of the Parliament building from Advent to the day of the Epiphany, and after its demolition, the wood is offered to those in need as firewood.
