One of the oldest mosques in Bangladesh and the oldest mosque in Chapainawabganj. It is located in Shahbazpur, comprising Sonamosjid Union of Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district. Sonamosjid is located 36 km from Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila, 85 km from Rajshahi and 300 km west of Dhaka. An inscription from the mosque shows that during the reign of Sultan Alauddin Shah, a man named Wali Mohammad built the mosque. The mosque had a golden hue on the outside, and the colors shone like gold when the sun shone. So locals used to call it a small gold mosque. Inside the mosque there are 3 pillars and 4 domes. There is a huge stone gate to enter the mosque, and the tombs of Captain Mohiuddin Jahangir and Major Nazmul Haque, a freedom fighter of Bangladesh War of Liberation. Outside the mosque, there is a large shrine with many built tombs. It is believed that these are the tombs of Wali Mohammad and his father / wife.
