Be nice if others chip in and check out places that is handicap accessible.
Such as what they offer for wheelchair, blind, deaf, disadvantage and others
Believe it or not, there are lot of places that do not catered to disable. As well as many don’t even realize it aware that they leave these people out.
Disabled are lot more people that you might realize. Many are stubborn about being independent, and many just want to be treated equally. Be great help if we here where to give a hand in helping them know where and what is out there for them. I started doing this on my community in Nee York. Not just because I myself is a Paraplegia in a wheelchair. Do my veiw get notice? Most definitely. And made huge impact on business in the area . Actually, bringing up the topic help alot if business realize the potential to help their business.
I am not talking about ADA policy and rights. Mostly aiming at making their place more accessible. Their employees more humanize and understanding.
If we can make adjustments for COVID-19 I am sure we can do little for brothers and sisters who have a disadvantage in their life.
The person who hosted the panel is @sashabg77 , and he lives in New York too.
Understanding how accessibility could have a positive impact also for businesses is one of the subjects we wanted to address in the Panel, because this could convince many to improve their structures.
I would love to hear from you
Welcome to Connect @Wheelchair4x and good on you for helping your community. I visited New York in 2018 and 2019 and hoped to do it again in 2020 but we all know what happened there.
You’re right that it should not end with the American Disability Act (ADA) - we have something similar in Australia, funnily enough called ADA here to but a different A :). I perfectly understand what you mean - the people who work at the business need to be accepting and helpful to everyone no matter how they present.
Thank you @Wheelchair4x for the post, and being a vocal disability community advocate. You’re right: We all help each other, and allies like you, @ErmesT , @EmekaUlor and the One Accessibility make a big difference.
Together, we will create a more accessible, equitable, disability-inclusive world. And it’s already happening: that Geo for Good panel Ermes mentions also had Local Guide Alvaro Silberstein talking about the travel company he started. Check it out: Wheel The World !
@ErmesT Thanks for the reply. Check out the video also, great.
I been a Paraplegia now a year. Most of skills and all the basic skills has been on my own. No one help, from medical to therapy and especially the insurance company. Not complaining, since feel it made me stronger in being Independent and able. Help me be better at understanding people , their needs, rights, dreams .Gave me strength knowing I don’t have limitations and not feeling sorry for being disabled.
My wheelchair skills is way above normal. Especially with a folding wheelchair. Right now waiting on my Rigid wheelchair. But. People who don’t have those skills, or those relying on electric wheelchair or scooter or even a Walker. Getting around can be pure H double toothpick. It’s not just wheelchair. Handicap is many different forms. From physical to mental and psychology. And it’s not all about Rights. Just basic common respect.
We might be different. But than, everyone is different.yet, we are all the same…Humans living together on same planet.
@PaulPavlinovich thank you. I do know much about (although have not seen Australia since 1975). I been told my last name actually was adopted from the River, Given to my grandfather ( Navajo) when most Native American people had to have American word last names . 157 years ago.
@Cecilita thanks for reply. Just open a YouTube account. Not know much about how to do or use it. But want try start putting veiws and article from here to there. Along with all the resources and information that everyone here have. Hopefully this with that, it will help all of us, as well as others.
My main interest lately is trying be more useful and helpful. Simply for others than for myself. Love being a Local Community Guide and connect with Google Map. People I see here are really interesting. Not like social media sites where people trying be something that their not, or trying rip or gain something that belongs to others.
Once more thank you, and for your time contribution
