Let me introduce a Chinese Indonesian dish that becomes favorite for some people, and maybe not a favorite for some people. Even there are some who does not dare enough to eat this one
So, what kind of of food is it?
The food is called Swikee. It comes up from a Hokkian dialect æ°Žé / shuÇ jÄ« / sĂși-ke where sui means water, and ke means chicken. It refers to frog as a âwater chickenâ. So basically, swikee is a frog leg dish that can be served into several kind of dishes.
Originally from Purwodadi, Central Java and Jatiwangi town in Majalengka, West Java. THE BEST companion to eat swikee is the warm white rice. Swikee has a combination texture between chicken and fish, so the meat is soft.
One of the swikee restaurant that becomes my familyâs favorite is Swikee Purwodadi Bu Wiwiek, a modest and simple restaurant. This is a family business where the family is so friendly to serve us.
The signature dish is definitely variant of swikee (frog legs) that is served in soup, stir fried, and deep fried. Not only swikee, they also provide another Javanese foods, such as tahu pong, lontong tahu, babat gongso, soto kudus, and many more.
Here are what we tried :
Swikee / Kodok Kuah
The tender and soft frog legs that are served in fermented soy paste soup with fried garlic and green onions. Serve this soup dish with lime and if you like spicy, add the chilli as well.
Kodok Goreng Tepung
I love crispy texture, so this is my favorite! The simple and crispy deep fried frog legs. At a glance, it may look like a fried chicken thigh, but donât get it wrong, please!
Kodok Goreng Mentega
The stir fried frog legs in butter sauce. It has a sweet and savory taste.
Tahu Pong Gimbal
Deep fried beancurd with shrimp gimbal (bakwan udang). Serve them with the thin and tasty black petis sauce that is made with shrimp.
Have you tried swikee before?
If you havenât, will you dare enough to try this?
