Cheers: A Boston Must-Do for Fans of the Iconic Sitcom

Greetings, my fellow Local Guides :wave:t4:

We vacationed in Massachusetts earlier this summer and spent the better part of two days sightseeing the city of Boston, Massachusetts

It’s a city rich in history and you could easily spend a week there and still have more to see and do! One of the “must see” places for @MelTG and I was a little less significant in early American history, but left huge imprint on American pop culture - The Cheers bar.

Cheers is a Boston institution and for good reason! The bar, which was made famous by the long-running sitcom of the same name, is located in the heart of the city, just across from the Boston Public Garden.

The interior of Cheers is decorated with memorabilia from the show and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. There is a large gift shop filled with shirts, hats, cups, stickers and much more.

Whether you’re a fan of the show or not, Cheers is a great place to go for a drink, or a bite to eat. We skipped food and had two draft beers at the bar, but the food looked tasty. The atmosphere is very lively and fun. You can even purchase souvenir mugs from the bar, which of course we did!

The bar was originally called the Bull & Finch Pub, but it was renamed Cheers in 1982 after the sitcom premiered. The show was filmed in a studio, but the exterior shots were filmed at the Bull & Finch Pub.

The actual television set bar is located on the street level, upstairs from the original.

Here are some of the pros and cons of visiting Cheers:

Pros:

  • Iconic location
  • Memorabilia from the show
  • Friendly staff
  • Cold beer
  • Great atmosphere

Cons:

  • Can be crowded, especially on weekends
  • Prices are a bit high
  • Parking is a nightmare

Overall, Cheers was a great place to visit, we really enjoyed hanging out at the bar. I highly recommend it for fans of the show or anyone looking for a fun and lively bar in Boston.

Always glad to revisit our travels @MelTG :star_struck:

Yes, a return visit needs to happen. I want to taste all of Ernesto’s different pizzas and as many of Mike’s cannolis as my stomach will allow! :joy:

Love this @Mikeinthefalls we really enjoyed our visit to Boston, loved the city enjoyed the people. Our friends drove us by the cheers bar, but you are right we couldn’t get near it and they mentioned the same thing small and a little pricey, and no parking.

Hope you don’t mind but I will share our trip to Boston

You will also see the Mikes Pasty store.

That looks like a great Boston trip @TerryPG I honestly have many similar photos of quite a few of the same places!

There is so much history (and I’m a bit of a history buff) and I’m looking forward to focusing on those, in my next trip.

Thanks for sharing your post, I enjoyed it.

@TerryPG we were very disappointed that we didn’t have more cash on hand, so we won’t be making that mistake again… might not need $200 worth of cannoli, tho
