Main Entrance, Chaubey Mahal, Kalinjar Fort, Madhya Pradesh, India.
Kalinjar fort offers ample opportunities for tourists interested in history and architecture. One such beautiful palace which is the Chaubey Palace is the center of attraction located near Panna Gate which is also known as Bara Darwaza.
King Chhatrasal of Panna had declared a kind of war against the Mughal Empire and Gangaram Chaubey supported him bravely. In 1700 AD, King Chhatrasal established his supremacy over Kalinjar and appointed Mandhata Chaubey who was the son of Gangaram as the governor of the fort, who with his bravery had failed all the attacks of the Mughal Faujdar of Etawah. This magnificent palace was built for his residence.
This magnificent monument is built on a rectangular plan and facing east and was built in early 18th century. In the construction of this structure unfinished yellowish sandstones were used. Its exterior and interior walls are lime plastered, while on the northern and eastern side, this palace is much damaged. The entrance of this double-storeyed structure is plain but attractive. The entrance archway is having two peacocks carved in the centre and floral designs at the front of the gate. Hangouts which are supported by the stone brackets are sculpted with elephants and horse figures which are damaged. 2nd storey of the Gate is having decorated arches and either side decorated windows, it appears to be Naubat Khana. Almost square open courtyard surrounded by open verandahs and colonnaded corridors. This monument is slightly smaller than other palaces. Its architecture is of Mughal and Rajput style.
